Australia’s 2025 Boxing Day sales fell on Friday 26 December, but there was no single national start time, end date or discount. Retailers set their own terms, and those offers have expired. The examples below are a historical guide—not current deals.
When were the Boxing Day sales in Australia in 2025?
Boxing Day was Friday 26 December 2025, according to the National Retail Association’s public-holiday guide and contemporary ABC News coverage. Some retailers advertised promotions before the public holiday, while others began on 26 December. There was no national schedule, so a retailer’s own terms—not a general Boxing Day date—determined when its offer applied.
How long did the sales last?
Duration varied by retailer, product and location. These examples show why shoppers needed to check the specific offer:
| Retailer or venue | Advertised timing and terms |
|---|---|
| MECCA | Its Australian online offer began at 6am AEDT on 26 December 2025 and ended when stock of selected products ran out. MECCA’s terms. |
| adidas Australia | The promotion ran from 12:00am AEDT on 26 December to 11:59pm AEDT on 31 December 2025, on selected products listed on its sale page. adidas Australia’s terms. |
| DFO South Wharf | The centre advertised a Boxing Day period from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 December 2025, with “up to 70% off.” That was an advertised maximum for this centre’s promotion, not a typical Australia-wide discount or a claim that every item or store had that reduction. DFO South Wharf’s promotion. |
These are examples, not a complete retailer calendar. Physical-store trading hours also depended on state and territory public-holiday rules; the National Retail Association’s 2025–2026 Christmas and New Year guide advises checking individual stores.

What kinds of deals were available?
Contemporary deal roundups covered a mix of gaming, appliances, smart-home technology, headphones, fashion and beauty. That variety does not establish one product category as the best buy, and historical deal lists should not be treated as current recommendations. Prices, stock and eligibility depended on the individual retailer’s offer. Tom’s Guide’s contemporary coverage and Getprice’s coverage reported the broad mix and varying timing.
Were Boxing Day prices actually cheaper?
Not necessarily. A percentage-off headline does not, by itself, show that a price was unusually low or the best available. CHOICE notes that prominent products can be discounted at other times of year too. Compare the sale price with the product’s earlier price and with other sellers, and account for delivery or collection costs before deciding whether the saving is worthwhile. Check the fine print and the clock
On 18 December 2025, the ACCC said it had written to major retailers about their Australian Consumer Law obligations for sales and promotions. Its concerns included countdown timers that might not reflect the full sale duration and broad discount claims whose fine print limited what was included. Check eligible products, exclusions, member-only conditions, stock limits and the actual end time in the retailer’s official terms rather than relying on a banner or timer alone. ACCC, “ACCC warns major retailers to not mislead or deceive consumers during Boxing Day sales” (18 December 2025).
Sale prices do not remove consumer guarantees
Goods bought on sale in Australia remain covered by applicable Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees. CHOICE explains that a product that does not function as it should for a reasonable time may entitle the buyer to a remedy such as repair, replacement or refund, depending on the circumstances. A retailer cannot make a sale price a reason to disregard those rights. CHOICE’s guidance.

The ACCC warned shoppers about fake retail websites imitating well-known brands and fraudulent sellers on social media or marketplaces. Before paying, verify the web address and seller identity, and be wary of a site or offer that does not match the retailer’s official details. What was reported about Boxing Day spending?
ABC News reported a forecast of $1.6 billion in Boxing Day spending in 2025; it was not a final measured total. At the time, official ABS November retail figures were not yet available. ABC attributed the forecast to population growth and revived household spending after three Reserve Bank rate cuts. It also quoted Fleur Brown, Chief Industry Officer with the Australian Retailers Association, saying there were “encouraging signs for the retail sector”—her assessment of sector conditions, not evidence that every retailer or shopper benefited.
