Those figures were reported by BBC Sport; Palace confirmed Wharton’s signing but did not publish the transfer fee or terms.
What was Adam Wharton’s reported transfer fee?
BBC Sport reported on 25 January 2024 that Blackburn had rejected a £18.5 million bid from Crystal Palace. That was the reported value of Palace’s offer, not a confirmed statement of Blackburn’s valuation. BBC Sport’s report on the rejected bid described it as an offer Blackburn turned down.
On 30 January, BBC Sport reported that the clubs had agreed an initial £18 million fee, with the total potentially reaching £22 million. The report did not establish Blackburn’s exact guaranteed proceeds or the conditions attached to any add-ons. BBC Sport’s report on the agreed deal is the source for those figures.
What did Crystal Palace confirm?
Palace announced Wharton’s signing on 1 February 2024, confirming a five-and-a-half-year contract but not disclosing the fee. Its announcement confirms the transfer and contract length, not the reported financial terms. Crystal Palace’s announcement contains no transfer-fee figure.

Why did Wharton choose Palace?
Wharton said Palace’s record of bringing in players from the Championship and developing them in the Premier League was a major reason he wanted to join. In a BBC Sport report on 1 February 2024, he said: “The way they’ve brought players from the Championship and developed them into world-class players in the Premier League is something that stood out to me, and it’s a big reason why I wanted to come here.” BBC Sport’s report on Wharton’s move includes his comments.

What was Blackburn giving up?
Wharton was 19 when he moved and had come through Blackburn’s academy. The Premier League reported that he made 51 first-team appearances for Rovers, scoring four goals, before signing for Palace. The Premier League’s signing coverage gives that record.
He received his first senior England call-up in May 2024. A Premier League feature published in April 2026 describes him as an established international, but neither milestone establishes a current transfer valuation or Palace asking price. BBC Sport’s England call-up report and the Premier League’s April 2026 feature cover those later developments.
