NVIDIA makes most of its money selling data-center infrastructure for accelerated computing and AI. In its latest reported quarter, Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026, the company reported $89.0 billion in Data Center revenue out of $96.2 billion total—about 92% of quarterly revenue, calculated from NVIDIA’s rounded figures. NVIDIA attributed the growth to the ramp of its Blackwell Ultra infrastructure.
Where does NVIDIA make most of its money?
By NVIDIA’s market-platform reporting, Data Center was by far the largest source of revenue in Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026. The figures below come from the company’s quarterly results and Form 10-Q; the share is calculated from its rounded reported figures.
| Market platform | Q2 FY2027 revenue | Share of total |
|---|---|---|
| Data Center | $89.0 billion | About 92% |
| Edge Computing | $7.2 billion | About 8% |
| Total | $96.2 billion | 100% |
These are market platforms, not NVIDIA’s operating segments. The distinction matters when reading earnings reports or comparing figures across time.
How does NVIDIA’s AI business make money?
NVIDIA sells computing products and systems used to build and operate data centers for accelerated computing and AI. In Q2 FY2027, the company said data-center products for accelerated computing and AI solutions drove revenue growth, with Blackwell accounting for the majority of system shipments. It attributed Data Center growth to the ramp of Blackwell Ultra infrastructure.

- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
In practical terms, customers invest in data-center computing capacity, and NVIDIA earns revenue by supplying the infrastructure. The reported figures do not isolate how much revenue came specifically from AI products, individual products, customers, or particular systems. So the $89.0 billion Data Center figure is not a disclosed AI-only revenue figure.
Who buys NVIDIA’s Data Center products?
NVIDIA divides Data Center into two sub-markets: Hyperscale and AI Clouds, and Industrial, Consumer, & Enterprise (ACIE). Its Q2 FY2027 filing describes growth in both areas, but the company’s stated drivers should be read as management’s account of demand, not independent evidence of the economics of each customer group.

Hyperscale and AI Clouds
NVIDIA reported that Hyperscale revenue more than doubled year over year and rose 13% sequentially in Q2 FY2027. This category covers large-scale cloud and AI infrastructure activity.
Industrial, Consumer, & Enterprise
ACIE revenue rose 138% year over year and 25% sequentially in Q2 FY2027. NVIDIA attributed demand to AI-native firms, enterprises, sovereign customers, and hyperscalers using AI clouds.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing.
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability. Compatibility: 348mm (13.7") length, 3.6 slots, 4.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
The company began presenting its market platforms in this format in Q1 FY2027 and recast comparative periods. In Q2, it also moved one company from ACIE to Hyperscale because of a change in that customer’s business model, recasting prior-period figures. Comparisons with older presentations may therefore use different category definitions.
How is this different from NVIDIA’s operating segments?
NVIDIA also reports two operating segments: Compute & Networking and Graphics. For Q2 FY2027, Compute & Networking generated $88.299 billion and Graphics generated $7.922 billion. These figures are a separate accounting view from Data Center and Edge Computing; the labels are not interchangeable. Use the market-platform figures to understand where revenue is reported by market, and the operating-segment figures when examining NVIDIA’s segment reporting.

What else does NVIDIA sell?
Edge Computing generated $7.2 billion in Q2 FY2027, making it much smaller than Data Center that quarter but still a meaningful part of the company’s business. NVIDIA’s history includes PC graphics, gaming, and Graphics products such as GeForce RTX graphics cards. A consumer graphics card is a different product and use case from the infrastructure driving hyperscale Data Center sales.

In Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported total revenue growth of 106% year over year and Data Center revenue growth of 117% year over year. Its reported GAAP gross margin was 75.0% for that quarter. These are historical quarterly results, not a guaranteed growth rate, margin, or stable run rate.

NVIDIA’s filing says interim results are not necessarily indicative of future results. It also describes supply constraints, uncertainty in demand estimates, and supply and capacity commitments totaling $279 billion as of July 26, 2026. These are company disclosures, not assurances that all anticipated demand will convert into sales.
The company’s Q2 outlook was forward-looking and did not assume Data Center compute revenue from China. Treat guidance as an expectation, not realized revenue. In its August 26, 2026 earnings release, CEO Jensen Huang said, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” The same release quoted him saying, “The AI infrastructure buildout is at full steam. Vera Rubin, now in full production, was built to power exactly this moment.” These are the CEO’s statements, not independently established forecasts.
