The change came after the James Bord-led consortium withdrew its proposed £47.8 million takeover in February and administrators named Arise as preferred bidder in March. The administrators later confirmed that the expected 15-point deduction would not be imposed.
Who took over Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC bought Sheffield Wednesday, according to the joint administrators’ completion statement dated 5 May 2026. The consortium comprised David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin. BBC Sport had reported on 2 May that the club announced the purchase, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership; the administrators’ statement formally confirmed the completed sale.

The sources reviewed do not state Arise’s final purchase price. The £47.8 million figure reported for the earlier Bord-led proposal was not the price of the completed Arise acquisition.
Why did the first takeover bid collapse?
The James Bord-led consortium had been named preferred bidder on 24 December 2025. It withdrew its proposed takeover on 25 February 2026. BBC Sport reported the proposed bid’s value as £47.8 million; that was the value of the withdrawn proposal, not a completed sale. The consortium said it could no longer justify the bid in light of its assessment of the club’s circumstances.

How did the Arise deal progress?
- 10 March 2026: Sheffield Wednesday announced Arise Capital Partners LLC as the new preferred bidder. The club said Arise had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds.
- While the sale was pending: The club said Arise had agreed to fund trading losses after eight weeks if the transaction had not completed by then. This was a contingency announced during the preferred-bidder stage, not the final sale outcome.
- May 2026: The club announced the purchase, and the joint administrators confirmed on 5 May that the sale to Arise had completed.
Being named preferred bidder was an intermediate step, not proof that a sale had closed. The completion statement is the decisive confirmation that ownership transferred.

No. A 15-point deduction had been reported as a prospective consequence during the sale process, but the administrators’ 5 May completion statement said the EFL would not impose it. The statement said Wednesday would begin the upcoming season on zero points.
What did David Storch say about the fans?
While Arise was preferred bidder, David Storch told BBC Radio Sheffield: “I am very sincere when I say the fans will own the club, we will be the custodians,” This describes his stated approach; it does not establish that supporters became legal owners or received binding governance rights. In the administrators’ completion statement, Storch said: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” The reviewed sources do not independently verify a performance guarantee.
