It offers stocks, ETFs, crypto, options, and—where available—CopyTrader. Plus500 is the more specialized choice: its U.S. business focuses on futures and prediction-market contracts rather than ordinary stock and ETF investing.
That conclusion changes outside the United States. Plus500 commonly operates there through CFD platforms, while eToro’s available products, fees, leverage, and investor protections depend on the customer’s country. Comparing the brand names without comparing the legal entity and product can produce the wrong answer.
eToro and Plus500 are not equivalent U.S. products
The first question is not which app has the nicer interface or lower advertised fees. It is what you want to trade. A U.S. eToro account and a U.S. Plus500 account serve substantially different purposes.

Plus500 U.S. futures trading is offered through Plus500US Financial Services LLC, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and National Futures Association member, NFA ID 0001398. A futures account is not the same thing as a stock brokerage account.
eToro is better for stocks, ETFs, crypto, and social investing
eToro is the more natural fit if you want to build a portfolio of U.S. stocks or ETFs, add crypto exposure, trade options, or study what other investors are doing. Its U.S. platform lists stocks, ETFs, crypto, and options as available categories.
U.S. stock transactions are advertised with 0% commission, and eToro does not charge a withdrawal fee, although its published minimum withdrawal amount is $30. Crypto trades carry a 1% fee for buying or selling. Options have no self-directed commission or contract fee, but regulatory and exchange-related charges can still apply.
The platform’s social features are a meaningful difference. Public investor profiles, performance information, Smart Portfolios, and CopyTrader make eToro more portfolio-oriented than Plus500’s derivatives-focused interface. That can be useful for investors who want ideas or automated trade replication, but popularity and historical performance do not prove that a strategy is suitable or will continue to work.

CopyTrader mirrors the activity of an eligible investor proportionally. It is not a managed account and does not turn the copied investor into your financial adviser. You remain responsible for the account, allocation, and resulting transactions.
- Select an eligible investor.
- Click or tap “COPY.”
- Choose the amount to allocate.
- Optionally select “Copy Open Trades.”
The minimum allocation is $200 per copied trader. eToro publishes a maximum of $500,000 per copied trader and allows up to 100 copied investors simultaneously.
If you choose “Copy Open Trades,” copied positions open at current market prices. They do not inherit the original investor’s entry prices, so your results can differ immediately from the person you copy.
For an existing copy relationship, open the portfolio settings menu to find:
- “Set Copy Stop Loss”
- “Add Funds”
- “Remove Funds”
- “Pause Copy”
- “Stop copying”
After selecting “Stop copying,” eToro presents “Sell All” or “Keep All.”

There are important restrictions. U.S. customers can copy only eligible U.S. users, not any eToro investor worldwide. CopyTrader is not available for eToro Options, is not available in every U.S. state, and crypto positions held through CopyTrader cannot be transferred to the eToro Money crypto wallet. The U.S. rollout began on October 29, 2025, initially as a phased release to selected users.
Plus500 is better for futures and prediction markets
Plus500 makes more sense when the product you want is a futures contract or a U.S. prediction-market event contract. It should not be selected as a replacement for a conventional stock-and-ETF account.
Its published U.S. futures charges include:

Exchange execution and clearing fees may also apply. A low per-contract commission does not make futures low-risk. Leverage, margin requirements, contract expiry, rapid price movements, and forced liquidation can cause losses exceeding the original amount deposited.
How Plus500 prediction markets work
Prediction-market contracts are quoted in cents and reflect the market’s implied probability. A contract priced at 47 cents represents an approximate 47% implied probability, although the price is not a guaranteed forecast.
You choose “Yes” or “No.” A winning contract settles at $1 and a losing contract settles at $0. Plus500 publishes a $0.01 commission per contract and a separate $0.01 exchange fee.
There are practical rules that can affect an order:
- You cannot hold both “Yes” and “No” positions on the same contract.
- You can hold multiple contracts on the same side.
- Some order types, including Immediate-or-Cancel orders, must execute immediately or the unfilled portion is canceled.
These contracts are event-based instruments, not ownership of a company or fund. Their payoff structure and settlement rules need to be understood before trading.
Fee comparison: look beyond “commission-free” marketing
The platforms expose different costs because they offer different products.
eToro U.S. costs
- Stocks: 0% commission for buying or selling stocks, subject to listed regulatory charges.
- Crypto: 1% fee when buying or selling crypto.
- Options: no self-directed commission or contract fee, with possible regulatory and exchange-related charges.
- Withdrawals: $0 fee, with a $30 minimum withdrawal amount.
In mid-July 2025, eToro changed how it presents its U.S. crypto fee. The 1% charge is shown separately before execution and recorded separately in portfolio and account statements rather than being embedded in the displayed spread.

“eToro is commission-free” is therefore incomplete. The statement applies to specified U.S. stock transactions, not to crypto, currency conversion, regulatory charges, or every product available through the broader eToro ecosystem.
Plus500 outside the U.S.
On Plus500’s non-U.S. CFD platforms, the main trading cost is commonly the bid/ask spread rather than a separate dealing commission. Other possible charges include overnight funding, currency conversion, wider spreads for guaranteed stops, and an inactivity fee of up to $10 per month after at least three months without logging in.

- Log in.
- Search for the instrument.
- Select the “Details” icon.
- Scroll to “Trading Info.”
The “Details” link next to the instrument name also shows the overnight funding time and daily percentage. Do not use this CFD fee schedule to estimate the cost of a U.S. Plus500 Futures account. The legal entity, product, and charges are different.
Ownership, CFDs, leverage, and overnight funding
A broker’s product label can conceal a major difference: whether you own the underlying asset.
In the U.S., eToro’s ordinary stock and ETF offering is securities investing through its broker-dealer. Outside the U.S., Plus500’s principal offering is often CFDs. A CFD provides price exposure rather than ownership of the underlying share, index, commodity, or other asset. CFDs may allow leverage and short selling, but they can also incur overnight funding and lose money quickly.

eToro also uses CFDs for certain leveraged or short positions outside the United States. Its global fee information identifies opening and closing spreads and overnight fees for CFD positions, while non-CFD stock positions do not incur overnight fees.
Before opening a position, check whether the order is an owned asset, a CFD, a future, an option, or a prediction-market contract. That classification affects financing, margin, voting or ownership rights, tax treatment, liquidation risk, and available investor protection.
Stop-loss orders do not eliminate market risk
A regular stop-loss is an instruction to close a position after a specified price is reached. It is not a promise that the position will close at that exact price.

During a market gap or a fast-moving market, the next available execution price may be materially worse than the stop level. Plus500 specifically warns that volatility and gaps can produce slippage. In futures, trading volume and system availability can also delay access or execution.

Plus500’s Guaranteed Stop Order, where available for a particular instrument, is different. It guarantees closure at the specified rate but comes with a wider spread and is not available universally or free of charge.
That means the statement “a stop-loss guarantees the maximum loss” is wrong. A standard stop can slip, while a guaranteed stop has separate availability and pricing conditions.
Regulation and asset protection
eToro’s U.S. stocks, ETFs, and options are provided by eToro USA Securities Inc., an SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA/SIPC member. SIPC protection does not protect against losses caused by a falling stock or poor investment decision.
U.S. crypto is handled through eToro USA LLC or eToro NY LLC, depending on the customer and product. Those crypto entities are not broker-dealers, FINRA members, or SIPC members, and crypto holdings are not SIPC- or FDIC-insured.

eToro’s strength is its portfolio and social-investing layer. Investor profiles, performance views, Smart Portfolios, and CopyTrader make it easier to examine other investors’ activity. The trade-off is behavioral: a popular profile or attractive past return can encourage investors to copy without understanding the strategy, concentration, turnover, or risk.
Plus500 is more trade-oriented. Its instrument pages put product information close to the order workflow, including spreads, overnight funding, and other trading terms under “Details” and “Trading Info.” On the U.S. platform, “Prediction Markets” appears in the main menu and top navigation bar.
Which broker is better for you?
Choose eToro if:
- You want to buy U.S. stocks or ETFs.
- You want stocks, ETFs, crypto, and options in one ecosystem.
- You specifically want CopyTrader or other social-investing features.
- You prefer a portfolio-oriented interface over a futures-terminal style.
- You understand that eToro crypto has different legal-entity and insurance treatment from eToro securities.
Choose Plus500 if:
- You specifically want futures.
- You want access to U.S. prediction-market event contracts.
- You prefer a derivatives-focused platform with published per-contract commissions.
- You need futures-specific order handling and exchange access.
- You understand margin, liquidation, slippage, contract expiry, and the possibility of losses exceeding your deposit.
Choose neither based only on “zero fees”

Is eToro or Plus500 better for beginners?
For a U.S. beginner who wants stocks or ETFs, eToro is generally the more suitable of the two because it offers ordinary securities investing and a portfolio-oriented interface. Plus500 is more appropriate for someone who specifically understands futures or prediction-market contracts. Neither platform removes the risks of market losses.
Can I buy stocks on Plus500 in the United States?
Buying ordinary stocks is not the core U.S. Plus500 offering. Plus500 U.S. principally provides futures and prediction-market contracts. The global Plus500 brand offers different products in other jurisdictions, so a non-U.S. account should not be assumed to work the same way.
Does eToro offer futures in the United States?
Futures are not eToro’s main U.S. product. eToro U.S. focuses on stocks, ETFs, crypto, options, and eligible CopyTrader functionality.
Is CopyTrader guaranteed to make money?
No. CopyTrader replicates eligible investors’ activity, but past performance and popularity do not guarantee future returns. Copied positions can open at current market prices rather than the copied investor’s original entry prices, and the copier remains responsible for the account.
Does Plus500 really charge no commission?
That claim is not accurate as a blanket statement. Plus500’s U.S. futures schedule includes $0.49 per Micro contract per side and $0.89 per Standard contract per side, along with regulatory, exchange, clearing, withdrawal, and possible auto-liquidation charges. Some non-U.S. CFD accounts use spreads rather than dealing commissions.
Are eToro crypto holdings covered by SIPC?
No. eToro’s U.S. crypto entities are not SIPC members, and crypto holdings are not SIPC- or FDIC-insured. eToro’s U.S. securities business has separate FINRA and SIPC membership.
Can a Plus500 stop-loss guarantee my maximum loss?
A regular stop-loss can suffer slippage during gaps or volatile markets. A Guaranteed Stop Order may guarantee a specified closing rate where available, but it has a wider spread and separate availability and pricing conditions.

For most U.S. investors, eToro is the better general-purpose broker of these two. It offers actual securities investing, ETFs, crypto, options, and a social-copying feature in one ecosystem.
For a U.S. futures or prediction-markets trader, Plus500 is the relevant choice. Its specialization is derivatives, not ordinary stock-and-ETF investing. Outside the U.S., there is no universal winner: identify your country, the legal entity, and the exact product before comparing fees, leverage, ownership, and protection.
