No—Bill Gates said he is not interested in buying the Seattle Seahawks. In a February 2026 town hall with Gates Foundation employees, he reportedly said owning a sports team would not be part of how he spends his time. The team’s ownership has since changed: the Khosla family became the Seahawks’ controlling owner in September 2026.

GeekWire reported on February 26, 2026, that Gates was asked about buying the team during a town hall with Gates Foundation employees. The outlet attributed its account of the meeting to The Seattle Times and quoted Gates: “This is a great city,” he said. “But my owning a sports team will not be a part of how I spend my time.” GeekWire’s report is the published account; an event transcript was not established.
How does Paul Allen fit into the Seahawks’ ownership history?
Paul Allen, Gates’s late Microsoft co-founder, bought the Seahawks in 1997. After Allen died in 2018, his sister Jody Allen oversaw the team on behalf of his estate. The franchise’s ownership history describes the family’s stewardship under Paul and then Jody Allen.
Who owns the Seahawks now?
The Khosla family became the Seahawks’ controlling owner when the sale closed on September 3, 2026, after NFL owners approved the transaction on August 26. What was the reported sale price?
The Seahawks said the terms of the July 2026 sale agreement were not disclosed. The Associated Press separately reported a $9.612 billion deal value, attributing the figure to a person familiar with the transaction.
