What should “waterproof” mean for a violin case?
A shell that resists impact and insulates against weather is not automatically sealed against rain. Water may enter through a zipper, seam, latch, or other opening even when the case body is sturdy. A fitted rain cover can add a water-resistant layer, but its protection depends on compatibility and construction.
Read the claim at the level the manufacturer makes it: a specific model, cover, zipper, or material category. “Water-resistant,” “weather insulation,” and “waterproof” are not interchangeable. The cited product information does not provide a shared test protocol that would let you rank these options by measured performance.
How to choose protection for your use
For regular walks in rain
Give priority to a model with an explicit water-protection claim for the complete case, or confirm that a compatible cover protects the case you own. For selected Musafia models, verify that the exact current model sheet still lists the IP-64 claim and rain flap. For BAM’s Submarine Hoody, match the cover to the specified Hightech contoured case.
