The $87 Walmart offer for a new Samsung Chromebook 4 was reported in 2021, so it should be treated as a historical promotion—not a verified current deal. Walmart’s current catalog shows a Samsung Chromebook 4 at $87 described as restored, which is not the same as a new laptop. Check the listing’s condition, exact model and checkout price before buying.
What happened to the $87 deal?
Chrome Unboxed reported the Walmart promotion in 2021 as a way to get a new Samsung Chromebook for $87. The article documents a past offer, not a current price guarantee. You can read the original 2021 deal report, but it does not establish that the same new-device promotion is available now.
Walmart’s current Samsung Chromebook and laptop listings include a Samsung Chromebook 4 priced at $87 that is described as restored. A restored listing is not confirmation of the historical new offer. Availability, seller, condition and checkout price can vary, so verify those details on the item page before placing an order.
What to check before buying the restored Chromebook
- Condition: Confirm that the listing says restored, used or new, and review what that condition means on the item page.
- Exact model and SKU: Match the listing’s model number to the device details; specifications can differ among market configurations.
- Final price and terms: Check the price at checkout along with seller details, warranty coverage and return terms.
- Update support: Check the device itself for its remaining ChromeOS update schedule, particularly if buying a used or restored unit.
What the Chromebook 4 offers—and what to verify
Samsung’s product page for a Brazil-market Chromebook 4 configuration lists an Intel Celeron N4020 processor, Intel UHD Graphics 600, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of eMMC storage, and an 11.6-inch anti-reflective display with 1366 × 768 resolution. These specifications describe that configuration; they should not be assumed to match every Walmart listing or US SKU. Check the exact model number before relying on them. Those listed components describe an entry-level Chromebook configuration. No performance test is implied by the specifications.
How long will it receive updates?
Google’s current Auto Update policy lists automatic updates for the Samsung Chromebook 4 through June 2029. That is the model-family date, not a guarantee about the condition or update status of an individual unit. For a specific laptop, open Settings → About ChromeOS → Additional details → Update schedule and check the device’s displayed last-update date. Google’s instructions for checking a Chromebook’s update schedule explain where to find it; the Auto Update policy lists the model-family date.

Google also says eligible devices released before 2021 may use extended updates, but those updates do not include Android apps or the Google Play Store. That distinction matters if you rely on Android apps: check Google’s extended updates guidance and confirm the device’s update settings before buying.

Consider the $87 listing only if its restored condition, exact SKU, remaining support period and purchase terms suit your needs. If you specifically want a new Chromebook, the available evidence does not establish a current new-device offer at that price. Compare any alternative by condition, update support, processor, memory, storage, screen, warranty, returns and final price—not the headline price alone.
