His son Tony Khan was presented as the family member taking a leadership role. Tony’s current Jacksonville Jaguars biography lists him as AEW’s CEO, general manager and head of creative. The available sources do not establish Shahid’s current ownership percentage or a complete breakdown of AEW’s ownership.
What is Shahid Khan’s role in AEW?
In a statement published January 8, 2019, Shahid Khan said, “I am the lead investor, a supporter and a backer of All Elite Wrestling.” POST Wrestling reproduced the statement as AEW prepared to launch. That is the clearest documented description of Shahid’s role, but it describes his position at the promotion’s launch; it does not state his equity percentage or prove the current ownership split.
In the same statement, Shahid said Tony would serve in a leadership role and assemble a team. The distinction is useful: Shahid described his involvement in terms of investment and backing, while Tony was positioned to lead the organization.
Who runs AEW: Shahid Khan or Tony Khan?
Tony Khan holds the listed executive and creative roles. The Jaguars’ current front-office biography identifies him as AEW CEO, general manager and head of creative. A September 2024 News4JAX report also described Tony as AEW owner and the Jaguars’ chief football strategy officer.

Shahid and Tony are father and son. The Jaguars biography describes Tony’s roles across his father’s sports interests, and News4JAX identifies Tony as the son of Jaguars owner Shad Khan. These family and sports-business connections help explain why Shahid is associated with AEW, but they do not establish the promotion’s present ownership percentages.
Did Shahid Khan say AEW would be independent?
Yes. In his 2019 statement, Shahid said, “AEW will operate as an organization completely independently from my other interests.” He also said AEW would not divert resources from his other businesses, teams, projects or investments. These are his public statements about the intended separation; the sources reviewed do not independently audit AEW’s finances or legal structure.

What is known—and not known—about AEW ownership?
The public record cited here supports a careful answer to “Is Shahid Khan the owner of AEW?” Shahid identified himself as lead investor, supporter and backer at launch, while Tony is currently listed in top executive and creative positions and was described as AEW’s owner in 2024. The available sources do not provide a current equity percentage for Shahid or a full ownership chart. A precise claim about who owns what share would go beyond this evidence.
Shahid’s other sports interests are separate context, not proof of AEW’s ownership structure. For example, NFL.com reported on his 2013 acquisition of Fulham; that history does not settle AEW’s current ownership.
