Beyond Games and Hobby officially opened its co-located Bunbury CBD store on 9 November 2024, after taking control of Bunbury Toyworld in July. The opening combined the heritage toy shop with Beyond’s gaming business, including gaming rooms created from former storage space.
When did the Bunbury CBD store open?
The official opening took place on Saturday, 9 November 2024. PerthNow/Bunbury Herald reported on the event on 12 November, describing staff at work and dozens of community members visiting to see the activities and gaming range. Those were reported observations, not a formal footfall count. Read the opening report.
Why were Beyond and Toyworld co-located?
Beyond had taken control of the Bunbury Toyworld business in July 2024. The renovation kept the toy store’s heritage identity while bringing Beyond’s existing gaming operation into the premises. Storage space was converted into gaming rooms for customers.
Owner Matt Denham said a queue formed when the doors opened: “We had a queue outside the door at opening,” he said. The report also said the expansion added the equivalent of two full-time employees. Denham’s view that the business could bring something new and dynamic to the CBD was his assessment, rather than a measured economic-impact finding.

How did the Toyworld purchase begin?
Denham said the acquisition began with a practical hobby need: he had difficulty getting plastic glue at Beyond’s former Homemaker Centre location, so he went to Toyworld. Former owners Rick and Harvey Baker sold him a case. Denham said the conversation continued because he knew the business was for sale, and he soon found himself making an offer. Recalling the Bakers’ help, he said: “I came in and as it happened, (former owners) Rick and Harvey (Baker) were really friendly and really helpful.”

Beyond’s own company history says it began as a small family business in Bunbury in 2018 and describes a focus on community, hobby skills, gaming tables and events; those are the company’s statements.
