Their answers ranged from joining homes for family and friends to opening a winery—but none were the actual winner’s confirmed intentions.
What happened in the April 17 Powerball draw?
PerthNow reported on 18 April 2025 that a single ticket sold in Perth’s metropolitan area won the $30 million Division One jackpot. It was the only Division One-winning ticket across Australia in that draw. The report did not identify the buyer.
Lotterywest spokeswoman Sarah Dawson called it Western Australia’s first Division One Powerball win of 2025 and its largest Division One prize since October, when colleagues shared a $30 million jackpot. PerthNow also reported that the three-week jackpot had raised more than $4.9 million for community groups across Western Australia. Housemates Megan Marr and Abbey Smith said the prospect was difficult to grasp. Marr imagined buying neighbouring houses and connecting them with a small bridge, as well as setting aside a separate little house for their cat. She also said she would buy homes for parents and friends.

Keep working, but on different terms
Smith said she might not retire entirely because she expected to get bored. Instead, she imagined working one or two days a week, opening a winery and building a home beside it.
Travel and help family
Teenager Luella Farah imagined travelling first class around Europe, buying homes and eventually settling down. Her father, Jason Farah, joked that she should pay off his mortgage.

The people PerthNow interviewed were imagining what they might do; the report did not disclose the ticket holder’s identity or intentions. Their ideas are personal anecdotes, not a survey of lottery winners or evidence of how a typical winner spends a jackpot.
