There is no defensible, evidence-backed list of the “best shitcoins” to buy now. The label is pejorative and has no consistent technical definition, while speculative prices and online sentiment can shift quickly. If you mean meme coins, the more useful approach is to examine what a token claims to do, how it is promoted, and what could go wrong—without treating any checklist as proof that it is safe or likely to rise.

What does “shitcoin” mean?

“Shitcoin” is an informal insult, not a defined technical category. It should not be treated as a precise synonym for “meme coin,” and tokens described by either label may differ in design, promotion, and purpose.

The SEC Division of Corporation Finance describes meme coins as crypto assets inspired by internet memes, characters, current events, or trends and promoted to attract an enthusiastic online community. Its staff statement says they are typically bought for entertainment, social interaction, or cultural purposes; their value is driven primarily by market demand and speculation; and they have limited or no functionality. The statement says, “Meme coins typically have limited or no use or functionality.” This is the Division staff’s view, not a rule, regulation, or Commission-approved statement. Why a “best shitcoins” ranking is unreliable

A ranking would need a clear definition of “best,” comparable evidence for every token, and a date, because speculative demand and social sentiment can change rapidly. The official sources cited here do not establish a current token ranking or substantiate which coins are best to buy. A list based on online popularity or a promoter’s claims is not evidence of future performance.

The SEC staff statement warns that meme coins can be volatile and buyers may lose all the money they used to purchase them. That risk is not removed by a large online following, a prominent promoter, or a claimed use case. This article therefore offers screening questions rather than picks or price predictions.

How to assess a speculative token’s claims

These questions help you examine the claims surrounding a token; they do not certify it as safe, establish its legal status, or forecast returns.

1. What purpose or functionality is actually stated?

Separate a stated use from entertainment, culture, or community appeal. Ask what the token is supposed to enable and whether the claim is specific enough to assess. Do not assume that a token has meaningful utility simply because promotional material describes it as useful.

2. Is the promotion selling a product—or mainly a price story?

Look at what promoters emphasize. Claims focused on urgency, viral attention, or an expected price rise deserve particular scrutiny. The SEC describes a pump-and-dump pattern in which promoters tout a memecoin, sometimes through a presale, to encourage purchases before selling their own holdings. The price may then fall rapidly, leaving other buyers with substantial losses. 3. Are returns described as guaranteed or low-risk?

Do not treat promises of high returns with little or no risk as reassurance. The SEC identifies such promises as a classic fraud warning sign. The SEC and CFTC also flag guaranteed high returns, “zero risk” claims, complicated jargon, and unlicensed sellers as warning signs in digital-asset trading pitches. 4. Can you verify the information independently?

Separate claims made by a promoter from information you can check through a credible, verifiable source. Do not make an investment decision solely on social-media posts or supposed tips. A confident claim repeated by multiple accounts is not independent verification.

What the legal warnings do—and do not—say

Calling a token a meme coin does not settle whether it is a security or whether a particular offer or sale is subject to securities laws. The SEC staff says those questions depend on the specific coin and the facts and arrangements of how it is offered and sold. Its statement also does not imply that fraudulent conduct is exempt from other federal or state laws.

In its April 22, 2026 page, updated April 29, 2026, the SEC describes an investment contract in terms of an investment in a common enterprise, a reasonable expectation of profits, and profits derived from the essential managerial efforts of others. It notes that some crypto assets that are not securities may nonetheless be offered or sold subject to an investment contract. These are legal distinctions, not a basis for declaring that any particular token or transaction is lawful or unlawful without the relevant facts. What this screening can’t tell you

Answering the questions above can help identify weak claims and warning signs, but it cannot establish that a speculative asset is safe or that its price will rise. The official sources cited here do not provide a current, comparable dataset for market capitalization, liquidity, holder concentration, token-contract permissions, or exchange availability. No ranking based on those measures is presented here.
