There is no established best crypto tax software for everyone. The right choice depends on your tax jurisdiction, the exchanges and wallets you use, and whether your activity includes DeFi, NFTs, staking, mining, or other complex transactions. Compare software against your actual records and filing workflow—not just its advertised integration count.
How do the main crypto tax software options compare?
The available product descriptions establish different import and reporting features, but they do not support a head-to-head verdict on accuracy, ease of use, service quality, or overall value. Treat vendor feature statements as claims to verify against your own accounts and the provider’s current documentation.
| Provider | What its published description says | What is not established here |
|---|---|---|
| CoinTracker | Its features page describes tax-form generation, filing integrations, and CSV uploads. The provider lists 500+ exchanges, wallets, and blockchains, 50,000+ smart contracts, and 600+ dapps; these are vendor-published coverage figures, not independent measures of accuracy. CoinTracker features | Current plan limits, prices, jurisdiction coverage, or whether a particular integration imports the transaction details you need are not stated on the cited page. |
| Koinly | Its help center describes consolidating transaction histories from wallets, exchanges, and crypto platforms, including trades, transfers, and DeFi activity. Koinly: What is Koinly? | Current plan limits, prices, jurisdiction coverage, and the depth of support for a particular chain or activity are not stated in the cited help article. |
| CoinLedger | Its product page describes wallet and exchange imports and generating or exporting tax forms and reports. CoinLedger | Current plan limits, prices, jurisdiction coverage, and integration-specific import detail are not stated on the cited page. |
| CoinTracking, ZenLedger, TokenTax, Summ, and Blockpit | These providers appear in Quartz’s 2026 market comparison. Quartz comparison, updated September 9, 2026 | The sources cited here do not establish aligned current plan details or a comparative feature verdict for these providers. |
Use this as a starting point, not a ranking. Before paying, confirm that the specific product and plan can import your accounts and produce reports for your jurisdiction and tax year.
What should you compare before choosing?
Jurisdiction and tax year
Confirm that the software supports the country or tax jurisdiction where you file and the relevant tax year. A generic claim of “crypto tax” support does not establish that it produces the local forms or calculations you need. If you use a tax preparer or separate filing software, ask which reports or file formats they can use.

Exact exchanges, wallets, chains, and import methods
Check every exchange, wallet, and blockchain where you had activity. Find out whether each connection uses an API, a public address, or a CSV import; “supported” does not guarantee that every method brings in the same transaction detail. Confirm that you can obtain the needed history from the source account, especially if an exchange account is closed or a wallet is no longer active.
Transaction types and classification review
Match the software to the activity you actually had. Check support for relevant staking, mining, DeFi, NFT, bridge, derivatives, or business transactions. Ask how the product flags ambiguous events and whether you can review or change classifications. Do not assume that a broad integration count means every transaction type will be identified correctly.
Rank #2
Reconciliation and audit trail
Look for warnings about missing transactions or cost basis, tools for matching transfers between your own accounts, duplicate detection, and a way to trace a reported amount back to its underlying records. Transfers can appear as separate outgoing and incoming events; verify that the software has not treated a transfer between your own wallets as a sale or left it unmatched. Review the records rather than relying on an integration count as proof of completeness.
Price, support, privacy, and access
Compare the live plan price at your transaction volume, any transaction limits, support access, and any separate charge for expert reconciliation. Prices and limits can change, and the sources cited here do not provide a current, aligned price comparison. Review the provider’s current data-handling and account-security terms as well. Read-only account permissions can reduce what a connected app is allowed to do, but they do not replace checking how your data is handled.

What U.S. taxpayers need to know about Form 1099-DA
For covered broker transactions, Form 1099-DA reporting applies to transactions on or after January 1, 2025, according to the IRS broker-reporting FAQs. The IRS said in its January 28, 2026 reminder that most Form 1099-DA statements for 2025 transactions will not include cost basis, so taxpayers may need their own transaction history to calculate it. IRS Tax Tip 2026-07
A broker’s information return is not a complete record of all your digital-asset activity, and receiving one does not by itself settle your tax reporting. The IRS says taxpayers must report relevant digital-asset income, gains, or losses whether or not they receive Form 1099-DA. Use the form as one source to reconcile against your exchange and wallet records, not as a substitute for them.
Rank #4
For applicable individual capital sales and other capital transactions, the IRS generally points taxpayers to Form 8949 and Schedule D, subject to the detailed instructions and applicable exceptions. Not every digital-asset event is a capital transaction: income events may have different reporting treatment. Check the IRS digital-asset FAQs and relevant form instructions for your circumstances.
How to use crypto tax software and check its output
- Set the scope. Choose your tax jurisdiction and tax year, then list every exchange, wallet, chain, and platform where you had activity during that period.
- Import complete records. Connect accounts or upload files using the available import method. Check that the date range is complete and include records from accounts you no longer use if you can retrieve them.
- Resolve reconciliation warnings. Investigate missing transactions, unmatched transfers, duplicates, and missing cost basis. Confirm that transfers between your own accounts are not mistakenly treated as disposals.
- Review transaction classifications. Check income and other ambiguous activity, including staking, mining, DeFi, NFT, bridge, or derivatives events that apply to you. Correct errors or omissions using records you can substantiate.
- Reconcile broker forms. For U.S. filing, compare each Form 1099-DA with your imported history and separately verify basis when the statement does not report it. Investigate differences instead of assuming either source is complete.
- Check the reports before filing. Confirm that the output matches the forms or exports required for your tax workflow, and review it against official instructions and your records. Keep the supporting transaction history and explanations for adjustments with your tax files.
What the software can—and cannot—settle
Crypto tax software can consolidate imported activity and prepare reports, but it cannot make incomplete source records complete or resolve every uncertain tax treatment for you. You remain responsible for complete and accurate reporting. If you have missing basis, complex DeFi or business activity, or uncertainty about how an event should be treated, consider having a qualified tax professional review the records and classifications.
