What Best Buy announced for launch night
Best Buy said its late-night openings would serve both customers collecting preorders and people hoping to buy in person. Its announcement said stores would have “a limited number of consoles, games and accessories available for walk-in customers.” The plan was announced before launch; it is not evidence of current inventory or a record of what any particular store ultimately sold.

What time did Best Buy open?
Best Buy announced a 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time opening on June 5 for nearly all U.S. stores. The corresponding times were 11:01 p.m. Central, 10:01 p.m. Mountain and 9:01 p.m. Pacific on June 4. The retailer directed customers to its store locator for information about nearby locations.

Was walk-in stock guaranteed at every store?
No. Best Buy described the walk-in supply as limited and did not publish a per-store unit count. “Nearly all” stores opening also does not mean every branch participated. The announcement therefore established a retailer-wide plan, not a reservation or a promise that a particular shopper could buy a console at a particular location.
Best Buy also said customers who picked up a preorder or bought a console in store at the 12:01 a.m. ET opening could receive a limited-edition commemorative coin bearing Best Buy and Nintendo branding, while supplies lasted. The coin was not guaranteed.

How large was Switch 2 launch demand?
Nintendo reported that worldwide consumer sell-through exceeded 3.5 million Switch 2 units during the four days after launch. In its 2025 investor presentation, Nintendo called that the highest global first-four-day sales level for any of its dedicated video game platforms. This is worldwide consumer-sales context, not a Best Buy sales or inventory figure.

The late-night opening was a June 2025 event, so it cannot establish present-day availability. For a purchase today, check a retailer’s current product page and local inventory rather than relying on the launch announcement. Best Buy’s Switch 2 product listing identifies the console and says it plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. It also notes that a compatible USB-C camera is sold separately for video features and that microSD Express cards for storage expansion are sold separately; compatibility matters for both accessories.
