Was Bahria Icon Tower auctioned by FBR?
There is no confirmation in the available reports that FBR completed the proposed auction. The date reported for it—June 19, 2025—is in the past, so it should not be described as an upcoming sale or as a completed one.
In May 2025, Profit by Pakistan Today reported that FBR had issued a public notice titled “Proclamation of Sale of Immovable Properties of a Tax Defaulter,” scheduling the auction for June 19. ProPakistani reported that it was to take place at 11:00 a.m. at FBR’s Large Taxpayers’ Office in Islamabad. Why was FBR proposing the auction?
The May 2025 reports described the proposed action as a recovery measure for Bahria Town tax liabilities. ProPakistani reported a tax default of Rs26.46 billion; Profit by Pakistan Today described unpaid liabilities as more than Rs26 billion. These are figures reported by the publications, not independent valuations of the tower, verified sale proceeds, or a final court determination.

ProPakistani reported that the proposal referred to section 138(2)(a) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, and Rule 162 of the Income Tax Rules, 2002. Profit by Pakistan Today described the legal basis more broadly as the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 and the Tax Default Act, 2002. The underlying FBR proclamation is not established here as a directly reviewed primary document, so these legal details should be understood as descriptions in news coverage rather than quoted notice text.
What happened to the tower after the FBR announcement?
Dawn reported on July 7, 2026, that NAB had provisionally attached Bahria Icon Tower under section 8 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010. An application to confirm the attachment was filed in the Accountability Court in Rawalpindi, which confirmed it by an order dated July 3, 2026. Dawn further reported that NAB took possession and handed custody and management to the local administration. Dawn, July 7, 2026.

This was a later NAB process, distinct from the 2025 FBR proposal to recover tax liabilities. Dawn also reported that a petition challenged notices concerning a separate NAB auction of five Bahria Town properties. Its July 7 report did not establish the outcome of that auction or say that Bahria Icon Tower had been sold. The later outcome and the final status of the related litigation remain unverified in the sources cited here.
