BASF is preparing its Agricultural Solutions division for a possible minority listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, but it has not decided whether or when to launch an IPO. The company’s current target is to be ready for a listing by mid-2027; that is a preparation milestone, not a confirmed IPO date.
What BASF is planning
Agricultural Solutions combines BASF’s crop-protection business with seeds and traits, biological solutions, and digital solutions. BASF’s announced plan is to list the business as a Societas Europaea (SE) on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange while retaining majority ownership. That would make the transaction a minority listing rather than a complete sale or BASF exit. BASF announced the intended venue, legal form and ownership structure on November 11, 2025.
The division reported €9.6 billion in sales and €990 million in research and development expenses for 2025, according to BASF. When could the listing happen?
BASF’s September 14, 2026 announcement set a target of IPO readiness by mid-2027. It did not set a listing date, and the company said no decision had been made on whether or when to execute the IPO. The distinction matters: readiness means the company is working toward the ability to operate and list separately; it does not mean investors can expect shares to be offered by mid-2027. BASF’s earlier target for completing regional separation work was early 2027, a separate operational milestone.
Separation progress and milestones
BASF is separating the business’s operations and systems ahead of any potential transaction. In September 2026, it said approximately 80% of the global business had transitioned to separate legal entities and a new industry-specific ERP system. The remaining regional work was expected to finish by early 2027. The company also said it had mandated Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan as global coordinators for the planned listing.

What the plan does—and does not—establish
- Ownership: BASF’s announced plan is to offer a minority stake and remain the majority shareholder.
- Location: Frankfurt Stock Exchange is the intended venue, according to BASF’s November 2025 announcement.
- Preparation: Legal entities, ERP systems and organizational arrangements are being separated to prepare for independent operation.
- Execution: No final decision to proceed with an IPO, and no confirmed date, had been announced as of September 14, 2026.
- Offer details: BASF had not disclosed offer size, valuation, pricing, share count or expected proceeds in the cited announcements. These cannot be inferred from the readiness target.
BASF Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors Dr. Markus Kamieth described the planned listing as “the next decisive step to unlock additional value for our shareholders.” That is BASF’s stated rationale, not an independent assessment of likely valuation, investor demand or whether the separation will create value.

The useful signals will be whether BASF completes the remaining regional operating separation, implements the new organization on schedule, and later announces a decision to proceed. A formal transaction announcement would be needed to establish an actual timetable and offer terms. Until then, “by mid-2027” refers to readiness, while a Frankfurt minority IPO remains BASF’s stated intention rather than a scheduled event.
