A public listing of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) within a year has been reported as an intention of the airline’s new owners—not as an approved or open IPO. TechJuice reported on February 12, 2026 that the Arif Habib-led consortium was considering a 5% to 10% public float. Official updates confirm that the consortium took management control on June 29, 2026, but do not confirm an IPO date, offer size, listing approval or subscription window.

Is PIA going to be listed on PSX?

A listing plan was reported, but it has not been confirmed in the official material cited here. TechJuice’s February 12, 2026 report said the new owners intended to list PIA within a year of taking operational control and were considering a 5% to 10% public float. That is reported intent, not an approved offer or a guarantee that a listing will proceed. The report is available at TechJuice.

The PSX’s February 12, 2026 release records a gong ceremony celebrating the privatization transaction; it does not announce a PIA listing approval or IPO. The later National Assembly committee update of September 17, 2026, updated October 1, likewise discusses the privatization milestones rather than announcing an IPO. See the PSX release and the National Assembly update.

What has happened in PIA’s privatization?

Acquisition approval and first closing

The Competition Commission of Pakistan approved PIA Equity Limited’s proposed acquisition of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) on April 29, 2026, following a Phase-I competition assessment. PIAEL is a special-purpose vehicle established by consortium members including Arif Habib Corporation, Fatima Fertilizer, Lake City Holdings, City Schools and AKD Group Holdings. The CCP described markets considered in its assessment as including domestic and international passenger transport, cargo, postal carriage and aviation-related technical services. Its release is at the Competition Commission of Pakistan.

The Privatisation Commission reported that the first closing was achieved on June 29, 2026, after conditions precedent in the Share Purchase and Subscription Agreement were satisfied. Management control then passed to the consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation. The Press Information Department’s announcement sets out the closing and transaction figures.

PIA’s ownership before and after the second completion

PIA’s company profile says PIAEL held 66.67% of PIACL after the first completion, while PIA Holding Company Limited (PIAHCL) held 33.33%. After a second completion, expected within 12 months of the first, the profile says the intended ownership is 75% for PIAEL and 25% for PIAHCL. These are privatization ownership stages, not public IPO allocations. The figures are on PIA’s company profile.

The National Assembly committee reported that the successful bidder conveyed an intention to exercise the call option for the remaining 25%, subject to contractual requirements and the second completion. That update does not say the option has been completed.

How the reported IPO idea differs from the confirmed deal

The reported float and the official privatization figures describe different things. The 5% to 10% figure is a reported possible public float; the Rs 180 billion figure is the consortium’s total investment commitment for the privatization, not a proposed IPO valuation or an amount paid entirely to the government.

Item What the source says
Reported public float TechJuice reported a contemplated 5% to 10% offer; official releases cited here do not confirm final IPO terms.
Total consortium commitment Rs 180 billion, according to the Press Information Department.
Commitment allocation Rs 55 billion payable to the Government of Pakistan and Rs 125 billion for fresh equity in PIACL, according to the Press Information Department.
Amounts reported at first closing Rs 10 billion paid to government and Rs 80 billion injected as fresh equity, according to the Press Information Department.
Second closing Expected within 12 months of first closing; the announcement describes a further Rs 45 billion investment and an option to acquire the remaining 25% for an additional Rs 45 billion.

The amounts above are categories and milestones of the privatization transaction, not IPO pricing. None establishes a future PIA share price, valuation, investor return or demand for shares.

When might PIA shares be offered to the public?

The reported one-year window is tied to taking operational control. The first closing and transfer of management control occurred on June 29, 2026, so the reported timeframe would point to roughly June 2027 if measured from that milestone. This is an arithmetic implication of the reported plan, not a confirmed IPO date; the official sources cited here do not publish a timetable.

Before treating PIA shares as available, look for formal PSX listing disclosures and an offer document that specifies the issuer, number and type of shares, price or pricing method, subscription dates, eligibility and risks. A report of an intention or a privatization ceremony is not a subscription invitation. No subscription window is established in the official updates cited here.

What investors should take from the news

  • Management control moved to the consortium on June 29, 2026, but that milestone is not itself an IPO.
  • The ownership structure is still described in terms of first and expected second completion; the proposed call-option acquisition remains subject to contractual requirements.
  • The 5% to 10% float and one-year listing are reported plans, not published offer terms.
  • Transaction commitments and equity injections do not reveal what public shares might cost or whether they would suit an individual investor.
