The claim that Ariana Grande earned seven times as much as Cynthia Erivo for Wicked is not supported by the reporting reviewed. Universal said the two stars received equal pay for their work on the film. The actor’s name is Cynthia Erivo, not “Ervino.”
What did Universal say about their pay?
A Universal spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that reports of a pay disparity were “completely false and based on internet fodder” and that Grande and Erivo “received equal pay for their work on ‘Wicked.’” The Hollywood Reporter reported the studio’s statement on November 26, 2024. ABC News and Variety also reported Universal’s denial. ABC News; Variety.

This is the studio’s stated position, not an independently verified account of the actors’ contracts. The reports do not disclose contract documents or confirmed salary amounts.
Where did the salary rumors come from?
A separate viral version claimed Grande received $15 million and Erivo $1 million. The Independent described those figures as a rumor, not established compensation. Its November 27, 2024 report does not verify either amount, and those figures do not substantiate the title’s seven-times claim.

No confirmed salary figure for either actor is established in the cited reports. The most accurate conclusion is that Universal said the stars were paid equally, while the precise terms of their compensation remain undisclosed in this reporting.
