These figures should not be read as a continuous price series: the A$4.50 and A$6.00 figures refer to the 365 g Original family pack and a historical Woolworths offer, while the A$7.20 report concerns Double Coat at one Sydney Metro store more than three years later.
Why prices are difficult to compare
A useful comparison needs more than the brand name. The product variant, pack weight, retailer, store location, observation date, and whether the price is regular or promotional can all change what a number means. Normalize the price by weight—for example, cost per 100 g—when pack sizes differ.

International comparisons need further context: currency conversion on a stated date, local taxes, and promotions can affect the result. A 7NEWS report described an online comparison between Australian Tim Tams and a UK Waitrose listing, and reported that Coles had a 200 g pack at A$4.50 on special from A$6 at the time of that report. How to check whether a price is high
- Match the variant and pack weight, such as Original versus Double Coat and 365 g versus 200 g.

- Compare unit prices, such as the cost per 100 g, rather than comparing packets alone.

Without those details, a complaint may accurately reflect one shopper’s experience while still being a poor guide to the price available elsewhere.
