In the U.S., Apple announced two separate iPhone trade-in offers in September 2026: $175 to $885 in Apple Trade In credit for eligible iPhone 13-or-newer devices, and up to $1,200 in credit through select carriers for eligible iPhone 14-or-newer trade-ins toward iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max. The amounts are not interchangeable or guaranteed: Apple says its trade-in value depends on the device, and carrier terms vary. Apple’s announcement calls the carrier offer a fall promotion but does not give an exact end date.

Apple Trade In and carrier credits are different offers

These are separate offers with different stated eligibility thresholds. The $1,200 figure is a maximum for select carrier offers, not a guaranteed Apple Trade In quote or a promise that every named carrier will provide that amount. Apple’s announcement names AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon but does not enumerate each carrier’s requirements.
Why your Apple Trade In estimate can change
Apple says trade-in values vary by the eligible device’s condition, year, and configuration. The estimate should therefore be treated as conditional until the device is inspected. Under Apple’s live U.S. Trade In terms, a third-party vendor inspects the device and may revise the initial quote if its condition differs from the description, Find My iPhone has not been removed, or Apple does not receive it within 14 days after delivery of the trade-in box. If the quote changes, Apple says you can accept or decline the revised amount.

Apple says very old or severely damaged devices may not qualify for credit. Check the estimate for your exact model and condition rather than assuming a device qualifies because it meets the model-year threshold.
How to compare the carrier offer with Apple Trade In
The headline maximum alone cannot tell you which route leaves you better off. Before committing, confirm the final credit and the conditions attached to it with Apple or the carrier.

- Check what new-phone purchase is required and whether the credit applies to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or both.
- Review carrier plan, activation, account, and timing requirements in the current offer terms. Apple’s announcement does not spell them out.
- Compare the full commitment and timing for each offer, not only the stated credit amount.
Apple describes the carrier promotion as a fall offer but does not state its exact expiration date. The announcement also does not establish current carrier-by-carrier availability. Verify the current terms and your device-specific estimate before making a purchase or sending in a phone.
