The company said Byron had tendered his resignation and that its board had accepted it, adding that its leaders were expected to meet standards for conduct and accountability that “recently” had not been met.
What happened at the Coldplay concert?
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a jumbotron at Coldplay’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, showed two people whom Astronomer later confirmed were Byron, then its CEO, and Cabot, its chief people officer. Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin was performing the band’s “Jumbotron Song,” which includes lines about people shown on the camera. After the pair moved out of view, Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” The remark was an onstage joke, not confirmation of anyone’s private circumstances. (AP)
Why did Andy Byron resign?
Astronomer did not publicly describe a specific personal reason for Byron’s resignation. The company’s statement tied the leadership change to its expectations for conduct and accountability, but did not provide further details about the incident or its investigation.
On Friday, July 18, Astronomer said Byron had been placed on leave and that its board had begun a formal investigation. The following day, the company announced that Byron had tendered his resignation and the board had accepted it. (AP)

What did Astronomer say about its standards?
Astronomer’s statement, as reproduced by the Associated Press, read: “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.” The company also said: “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.” (AP)
The wording establishes the company’s stated rationale and its decision; it does not spell out a finding from the board’s investigation. Alison Taylor, a clinical associate professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, said the episode touched a familiar concern about “leaders acting like the rules don’t apply to them.” (AP)
