Amazon Bazaar is scaling up its low-price fashion and lifestyle offer in India: in a May 12, 2026 report, Reuters, published by The Economic Times, reported that the service had 30,000 sellers and more than 3 crore products. Amazon Bazaar head Sameer Lalwani said it had grown fivefold year on year in 2026. Amazon had also begun surfacing Bazaar listings in its main shopping experience with “also available on Bazaar” tags, according to the report.
What Amazon Bazaar sells—and how its prices are positioned
Amazon introduced Bazaar in India in April 2024 as a special store for affordable, trendy fashion and lifestyle goods, initially reported on the Amazon India Android app. Its launch assortment included clothing, accessories, jewelry, handbags, shoes, traditional and western wear, and home goods. TechCrunch cited T-shirts starting at ₹129 at launch; that was a 2024 example, not a current price promise. TechCrunch’s launch report described the categories and launch-era price example.
For the later snapshot, Reuters/The Economic Times reported on May 12, 2026, that 70% of Bazaar’s catalogue was priced below ₹300 and that the maximum product price was ₹600. These are reported service figures, not independently audited measures. Bazaar is therefore positioned around low-priced, largely value-oriented goods rather than a premium or designer fashion range.
How Amazon is building Bazaar into its marketplace
Amazon’s approach relies on extending an existing operation rather than creating an entirely separate retail network. Lalwani told The Economic Times that “leveraging Amazon’s existing delivery network, seller base and payments infrastructure gives Bazaar an edge over existing players instead of having to build a separate platform from scratch.” The same May 12, 2026 report said Bazaar charged no commission and only shipping charges, with reduced rates. It also reported that items priced below ₹99 could not be returned. These are details reported for that date; the source does not establish whether the terms have since changed.

The seller proposition has evolved from the launch period. Before launch, TechCrunch reported in February 2024 that Amazon planned to waive referral fees for Bazaar sellers and was targeting products priced below ₹600. Those were prelaunch plans, not proof of the current fee policy. Amazon’s seller pitch, as quoted by TechCrunch, was: “Your products will be featured in a special store on Amazon, making them easy for customers to find.”
What the reported scale figures say—and do not say
The May 2026 figures suggest Amazon has assembled a broad catalogue and seller base, and Lalwani said Bazaar grew fivefold year on year in 2026. He also said more than 65% of Bazaar orders came from Tier-II and Tier-III markets. Amazon reported that around 25% of orders contained two or more items. The figures point to activity beyond India’s largest cities and some multi-item purchasing, but they do not establish profitability, repeat-customer rates, product quality, or returns performance.

Amazon’s reported growth is not a market-share result. The May 2026 account focuses on Bazaar’s own operating metrics and does not establish a current market-share ranking against rival platforms.
How Bazaar fits into India’s competitive fight
Bazaar entered a crowded value-commerce market. TechCrunch’s April 2024 launch coverage named Flipkart and Reliance-owned Ajio among the competitors, while the 2026 report said Amazon was seeking shoppers who had moved to platforms such as Meesho. These services compete for price-conscious shoppers, but the available reporting does not provide directly comparable, current figures for their prices, seller bases, order volumes, or market shares.

TechCrunch’s 2024 story cited Bernstein for an estimate that Ajio had captured approximately 30% market share in about a year. That is an attributed estimate from 2024, not a current share figure and not a like-for-like comparison with Bazaar’s 2026 catalogue or seller counts. The relevant comparison is strategic: Amazon is using a low-price store within its wider marketplace, while rivals have their own fashion and value-commerce platforms.
Bazaar is not the same as SERVE or RIVER
Amazon has used separate storefronts and labels for different fashion audiences. They should not be treated as alternate names for Bazaar.

What remains uncertain about the model
Bazaar’s low price ceiling, reported seller scale, and access to Amazon’s existing logistics and payments give it a clear distribution strategy. The available reporting does not show whether that strategy produces sustainable margins or durable customer loyalty. Nor does it establish return rates, product-quality outcomes, or how well the assortment meets shoppers’ expectations. The reported restriction on returns below ₹99 is one concrete condition for shoppers to consider, but it does not answer how returns work across the rest of the catalogue.
