The “Amazon job cuts expected next week” report was published on January 22, 2026, and referred to the week that followed—not to a new round in October 2026. Reuters reported a forecast based on two unnamed sources; Amazon later confirmed approximately 16,000 affected roles on January 28. The available evidence reviewed for October 2026 does not establish a new broad round.

What the January 2026 report said

On January 22, Reuters reported that Amazon planned another round of corporate job cuts the following week, citing two people familiar with the matter. The report described a plan, not a confirmed company announcement. Reuters report syndicated by Investing.com, January 22, 2026.

Amazon confirmed the round six days later. In a January 28 statement, Senior Vice President Beth Galetti said the changes would affect approximately 16,000 roles across Amazon. That company announcement—not the earlier forecast—is the confirmed figure for the January round. Amazon statement, January 28, 2026.

How the two confirmed rounds compare

Announcement Roles Status and support described
October 28, 2025 Approximately 14,000 corporate roles Amazon announced the reductions, describing them as part of work to streamline its organization and shift resources. Amazon statement, October 28, 2025.
January 28, 2026 Approximately 16,000 roles across Amazon Amazon announced the reductions. It said most affected US-based employees would have 90 days to seek another internal role; timing varies internationally. For employees who did not find or seek another internal role, Amazon described transition assistance including severance, outplacement services, and applicable health benefits. Amazon statement, January 28, 2026.

Those two company announcements total approximately 30,000 roles. Reuters had separately reported a broader reduction goal of about 30,000 based on its sources; that reported goal was not itself an Amazon announcement. The announced figures concern corporate roles or roles across Amazon, not the company’s entire workforce.

Is Amazon announcing another round in October 2026?

The evidence reviewed for this article did not substantiate an official Amazon announcement of a new broad October 2026 round. That is a limited finding about the material reviewed, not proof that no further announcement exists. The January 2026 “next week” forecast should not be treated as evidence of an October event. For any current claim, check Amazon’s official company news announcements and look for a dated statement confirming the affected roles.

What affected employees should know about the stated support

Amazon’s January statement said most affected US-based employees would have 90 days to look for a new role internally. It said timing differs internationally in accordance with local and country-level requirements. The company also described severance, outplacement services, and applicable health benefits for employees who did not find or chose not to seek an internal position. These are Amazon’s descriptions of its support; the statement does not establish identical terms for every employee or country. Employees should consult the direct communications and applicable local terms they receive.
