Why did AMRI change its name to Curia?
AMRI said the new name reinforced its position as a global CDMO with capabilities across the drug-development and manufacturing lifecycle. In practical terms, the rebrand presented the business as one organization offering services from research and development through commercial manufacturing, rather than emphasizing its former name, Albany Molecular Research.
The company described “Curia” as derived from a Latin word meaning “purposeful assembly” and said the name referenced its patient-inspired mission. That explanation is Curia’s own account of the name’s origin. The 2021 announcement also introduced a new brand identity and website.
When did AMRI become Curia?
The name change took effect on July 12, 2021. Curia’s corporate history describes the transition as AMRI “relaunches as Curia,” consistent with a rebrand rather than a merger. Curia’s company history traces the business back to its founding as Albany Molecular Research, Inc. in 1991 and notes that it changed its name to AMRI in 2007.

How the Curia brand developed after the change
Integrity Bio and LakePharma joined the Curia identity
Curia acquired Integrity Bio in August 2021 and LakePharma in September 2021. On February 14, 2022, the company announced that both businesses had fully transitioned to the Curia brand, describing the integration as a way to offer biologics discovery, development, and manufacturing capabilities under that identity. Curia’s 2022 announcement framed the transition as brand integration following the acquisitions.
Curia’s 2024 service-brand refresh
In an October 7, 2024 announcement, Curia said its refreshed brand organized its services around small molecules, generic APIs, and biologics. The company also highlighted analytical services and sterile fill-finish through its updated website. These are Curia’s descriptions of its service areas and capabilities as of that dated announcement. Curia’s brand-refresh announcement provides that later framing.
