- Check the effective date: a listed notice or forecast is not necessarily the rate currently in force.
- Check the fuel category: petrol, also called motor spirit, and HSD are priced separately.
- Distinguish an official notified price from a media projection.
- For a claimed increase or cut, look for both the per-litre change and the previous price, along with the source and revision date.
