What Amazon has confirmed for the 2026 holiday season
Amazon’s published information establishes last season’s U.S. holiday extension, but does not establish the purchase dates or deadlines for the 2026 season. The company may update its seasonal policy, so use the date displayed for the specific order rather than carrying last year’s deadline forward. See Amazon’s holiday return announcement and its current return policy.
For reference only, most items bought from November 1 through December 31, 2025, could be returned through January 31, 2026. Apple-branded products bought in that period had a January 15, 2026 deadline. Those dates have passed and are not confirmation of the 2026 policy.
How to find the deadline for your order
- Open Amazon’s Returns Center or go to Your Orders in your Amazon account.
- Select the item and start or review the return request. Check the return-by date shown in the request confirmation or in the Return Request section of Order History.
- Follow that item-specific date and the return instructions displayed for the order. Amazon says most Amazon.com items have a 30-day window from delivery, but the period varies by category and item.
Amazon’s policy page lists exceptions to the general 30-day window, including a 15-day period for new Apple-branded products sold by Amazon and longer periods for some Renewed and registry purchases. Item detail pages also show return-eligibility information before purchase. A seasonal extension does not mean every item qualifies; check the particular item’s eligibility and condition requirements.

How to return an Amazon holiday gift
If the order was marked as a gift, the recipient can start a return using the 17-digit order number on the packing slip or digital gift receipt. Amazon’s gift return instructions explain the process. If the purchase was not marked as a gift, the recipient may need a digital gift receipt or help from the gift giver or Amazon customer service.
Where eligible Amazon returns can be dropped off
Amazon offers box-free, label-free returns for eligible items at participating U.S. locations; the return flow shows which options are available for your item and location. Depending on the return, participating locations may include FedEx Office, Whole Foods Market, The UPS Store, Kohl’s, Staples, Rent-A-Center locations, and select regional partners. Check Amazon’s return drop-off location information and the options presented when you create the return.

Amazon says four out of five U.S. customers have at least one of its 10,000-plus drop-off locations within five miles of home. That is Amazon’s own access statistic, not a guarantee that every shopper or every item has a particular drop-off option.

Amazon says a return can take up to 30 days to be received and processed after it is sent, with additional time possible in some cases. Once Amazon issues the refund, the time for it to appear depends on the payment method and financial institution. Check the return status in your account rather than relying on a specific arrival date.
