No. Robert Platek was linked to an earlier reported takeover possibility, but the sources confirming Reading FC’s eventual sale do not identify him as the buyer. The club announced a sale to Redwood Holdings Limited in May 2025; BBC Sport reported that the purchase was completed and ratified by the English Football League on 14 May 2025.
Did Robert Platek take over Reading FC?
The Platek talks belong to an earlier report, not to the confirmed outcome of Reading FC’s ownership change. The club’s statements about its sale process did not name Platek, and the eventual transaction announcement identified a different buyer. The available official and completion sources therefore do not verify that Platek took over the club.
This distinction matters because the original headline describes talks to seal a takeover, while the confirmed sale happened later and involved Redwood Holdings Limited. The later transaction does not establish what happened in any earlier discussions involving Platek.
Who bought Reading FC from Dai Yongge?
Reading FC announced on 3 May 2025 that it had agreed a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said Redwood was a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. BBC Sport reported on 14 May 2025 that the purchase was complete and had received EFL ratification, ending Dai Yongge’s majority ownership.

| 14 May 2025 | BBC Sport reported that the purchase was complete and ratified by the EFL. |
Why the takeover was significant
The change of ownership followed a prolonged sale process amid regulatory and financial pressures. In October 2024, Reading FC attributed its formal registration embargo to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. In April 2025, the EFL said it was monitoring immediate cash-flow requirements as it extended the divestment deadline.
Those statements describe circumstances reported at the time. They do not establish Reading FC’s current financial position.
