SponsorPay announced on July 17, 2014, that it was rebranding as Fyber. The company said the new name reflected a broader, unified mobile monetization platform for app developers—not simply a change of branding. Digital Turbine later acquired control of Fyber in 2021.

When did SponsorPay become Fyber?

SponsorPay announced the rebrand on July 17, 2014. Its announcement described the company as founded in 2009 and said product development over the preceding 18 months had expanded its offering. The name change was presented as part of a push to bring mobile advertising and monetization tools together for app developers. Fyber’s July 17, 2014 announcement is the primary source for the rebrand and the company’s description of its products.

What did Fyber’s platform offer?

In 2014, Fyber described its software as a platform for managing advertising revenue and user acquisition across connected devices. Its announcement grouped the offering into several related functions:

  • Ad network mediation: tools for developers to manage multiple mediated ad networks while retaining direct contractual relationships with them.
  • An ad marketplace: access to campaigns from demand partners, video networks, agencies, and direct advertisers.
  • User acquisition: iOS and Android campaigns using cost-per-install and cost-per-engagement formats.
  • Multiple ad formats: offer walls, rewarded video, interstitials, and other video, with rewarded and non-rewarded options.
  • Revenue reporting and optimization: a unified dashboard with yield-optimization features and a proprietary predictive algorithm.

These categories describe Fyber’s 2014 product positioning. Mediation meant managing ad networks; marketplace access connected app inventory with buyers; user acquisition referred to campaigns intended to bring users to apps. The announcement’s product and performance claims were made by Fyber and were not independent evaluations.

What scale did the companies report?

Fyber’s 2014 announcement said the platform reached more than 100 million unique users per month and that the company had grown to more than 180 employees. It also reported 63% growth in new integrations and 250% growth in mediated revenue during the preceding quarter. Those are historical figures reported by Fyber in its announcement, not current measures or independently verified results.

When Digital Turbine announced its acquisition in 2021, it described Fyber’s network as having more than 180 programmatic demand partners and reaching 650 million monthly active users in more than 180 countries. Those figures are likewise historical company-reported figures. They should not be read as Fyber’s present-day scale. Digital Turbine’s acquisition announcement gives the buyer’s account of the transaction and network reach.

What happened to Fyber after the rebrand?

Digital Turbine completed the initial closing of its acquisition of 95.1% of Fyber’s outstanding voting shares on May 25, 2021, according to the company’s transaction announcement. Digital Turbine’s SEC filing later reported that Fyber’s remaining Frankfurt-listed shares were delisted on August 6, 2021. The filing documents the delisting. This establishes the key ownership and listing milestones; it does not by itself establish the current availability or status of Fyber’s products.
