AT&T does not charge every wireless customer one standard early termination fee (ETF). A fee may apply if the line is canceled before an applicable service commitment is complete; its amount depends on the governing agreement and how many full months have been completed. Any unpaid phone or accessory installments are separate, and can become due immediately when you cancel the linked line.
When does AT&T charge an early termination fee?
An ETF is tied to an applicable service commitment, not simply to canceling wireless service. AT&T’s consumer terms say a customer who cancels before completing the commitment may owe a fee tied to the purchase price, reduced for each full month completed. Check the agreement for the specific line: AT&T describes service without a commitment—including service with a full-price device, an installment-financed device, or a customer-owned device—as month-to-month. Those examples do not establish whether a particular account has a commitment; the agreement and line details control. AT&T Consumer Service Agreement
How much is AT&T’s ETF?
AT&T’s consumer fee schedule lists an ETF of $58 to $325 for applicable one- or two-year commitments, depending on when service is terminated. This is a schedule range, not a quote for an individual account and not a fee that applies to every current customer. The governing agreement and the number of full months completed determine whether a fee applies and its amount. AT&T Wireless Fee Schedule
For business wireless accounts, do not assume the consumer range applies. AT&T says business fee eligibility depends on the business service agreement, device, and remaining commitment. AT&T: Estimate Your Cancellation Fee

What else could be on the final bill?
Unpaid device or accessory installments
An installment payoff is separate from an ETF. AT&T says, “The remaining unpaid installment balance is due immediately when you cancel the line linked to the plan.” It says that balance appears on the final bill. You can find the amount in your wireless account’s installment details. Check Your Installment Agreement Details Cancel Wireless Service or Remove a Line
Service charges for the billing period
AT&T says it does not prorate service charges when you cancel in the middle of a bill period based on the cancellation date. Your final bill may therefore include service charges for the full billing period. Cancel Wireless Service or Remove a Line

How to find your account-specific amount
- Check the commitment: Review the agreement and details for the line you plan to cancel. AT&T’s legal-document index identifies a prior Consumer Service Agreement for agreements before September 1, 2026, so the agreement date can matter when interpreting an older commitment. - Check device financing separately: Sign in to your wireless account and open the installment details to see the remaining device or accessory balance.
- Ask AT&T before canceling: Contact AT&T by chat when available or call 800-331-0500. Certain online orders in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York may have an online cancellation option. AT&T cancellation options
AT&T’s published materials provide a fee range and explain how commitments and installment balances work, but they do not establish one amount for all customers or an individual fee calculation without account and agreement details.
