SalarySport estimates Salford City has League Two’s highest player wage bill and York City its lowest among the 24 clubs on its page. But the source does not clearly identify the season or explain its methodology, so these are third-party estimates—not official or audited club totals. Its published weekly figures are rounded, and they do not establish a reliable exact order for every club.
Which League Two club has the lowest wage bill?
York City is the lowest-ranked club in SalarySport’s displayed ordering, at about £39,000 a week. Barnet follows at about £40,000, then Accrington Stanley at about £41,000. Those amounts are rounded weekly estimates; they should not be multiplied by 52 and presented as exact annual figures.

SalarySport’s page, accessed in 2026, reports an annual estimate for York City, but the exact figure was not available in the page material reviewed for this ranking. It is therefore more accurate to identify York as the lowest in the source’s ordering than to supply an unverified annual total.
Who has the biggest wage budget in League Two?
SalarySport lists Salford City highest, estimating its player wages at £131,715 per week and £6,849,180 per year. Port Vale is next at £109,025 per week and £5,669,300 per year. These are estimates reported by SalarySport, not figures verified against club accounts. See SalarySport’s League Two wage estimates.

How much does each League Two club spend on wages?
The table shows SalarySport’s rounded weekly estimates in ascending order. Several clubs share the same displayed amount because the figures are rounded; their order within those ties should not be treated as an exact ranking. The source’s exact annual values were available for only some clubs, so the table does not invent annual totals from the rounded weekly figures.

Why these estimates are not official club wage bills
A player-wage estimate is not necessarily the same as the wages expense in a club’s accounts. Club accounts may cover a different period, use different accounting categories and include costs beyond first-team player wages. SalarySport’s page does not establish a common season or explain how its figures are calculated, so the values are best used as an indicative comparison rather than a verified financial statement.
Other sources do not resolve that limitation on the available evidence. FootyStats says its League Two salary data was last verified for 2025/26, but its accessible material does not provide a directly comparable audited full-club annual wage-bill ranking. What EFL salary rules do—and do not—tell you
The 2025/26 EFL regulations include League Two salary-cost management rules and define an established player’s basic wage as £2,000 per week in the relevant section. That regulatory definition is not a club-by-club payroll disclosure and cannot be used to confirm the estimates in the table. Read the EFL Regulation 2025/26 document.
