Centuria’s Alkimos Shopping Centre is under construction, with an opening anticipated in late 2027, according to the developer. The centre is planned near Alkimos Station as the first retail stage of the larger Alkimos Central precinct. Detailed plans reported in October 2025 described a supermarket, shops, food outlets and community services; Centuria’s current project page names Woolworths, childcare and 17 specialty retailers.
Where the Alkimos shopping centre is planned
The centre is planned on Marmion Avenue, about 80 metres from Alkimos train station, according to PerthNow’s 3 October 2025 report. The Government of Western Australia described the 2.4-hectare site as about 100 metres from Alkimos Station and 150 metres from the future aquatic and recreation centre in its 17 September 2025 announcement. The distances differ slightly by source; both place the project close to the station.
This is the first retail stage of Alkimos Central, a station-focused town-centre precinct. The state government described the initial retail and services precinct as a $33 million project, while PerthNow reported a proposed $25 million shopping-centre development. These are figures from separate descriptions of the project and should not be treated as interchangeable cost estimates.
What the 2025 plans showed
PerthNow reported that the proposed centre would contain 20 single-storey commercial tenancies, including a 2,400-square-metre supermarket. The reported mix was:
#1 Best Overall
- Roll Into Fun: Kids push, steer, and load groceries for exciting pretend shopping adventures that spark creativity and role-playing fun in their own play store or kids kitchen playset
- Built Like the Real Thing: Features a sturdy metal frame, pivoting front wheels for smooth rolling, and a fold-open seat for a doll or stuffed animal passenger (sold separately) to join the trip
- Skills on the Move: Builds fine motor skills, coordination, and social play while encouraging hands-on, screen-free fun that inspires creativity and imaginative role-playing every single day
- Educational Toys for Any Occasion: When buying a birthday gift & holiday gifts for kids, or rewarding little milestones, celebrate the moments that matter with Melissa and Doug toys for boys & girls
- Wholesome Play for 35+ Years: Melissa & Doug inspires kid-powered play with its learning toys for kids, baby & toddler toys, puzzles, games, building toys & stuffed animals, dolls, & even a doll house
- Nine retail stores and six cafes and restaurants
- A fast-food outlet and liquor store
- A medical centre and childcare centre
- A supermarket
The plans also included two internal roads, a pedestrian mall, 301 car parking spaces, four electric-vehicle bays, motorcycle bays and 207 new trees, according to the same PerthNow report.
How the parking figures fit together
The proposed 301 spaces sat between two different figures cited in PerthNow’s 2025 coverage: district planning schemes were reported to require 402 bays, while the Alkimos Precinct Plan was reported to cap parking at 242. The article said the traffic assessment considered 301 appropriate because the centre would be among the area’s first and early demand was expected to be higher. These are the benchmarks and assessment reported at the time, not independently re-verified current rules.

What Centuria says is happening now
Centuria’s current Alkimos Shopping Centre project page says construction commenced in August 2026 and the centre is anticipated to open in late 2027. The opening is a forecast, not a guaranteed date. This is the latest milestone stated in the cited sources; PerthNow’s October 2025 article had said construction was expected to begin in late 2025 if approved.
Centuria currently identifies Woolworths and a childcare centre as anchors, alongside 17 specialty retailers. That is the developer’s current description; it does not establish the final names of all retailers or confirm that every detail in the October 2025 concept remains unchanged.

How the centre fits into Alkimos Central
The shopping centre is one part of a much larger plan around Alkimos Station. DevelopmentWA describes Alkimos Central as a secondary centre, with a planned core around the station and two main streets. The proposed uses include retail, commercial, entertainment, food and beverage, apartments, recreation, civic and cultural facilities, connected by walkable streets intended to be safe for pedestrians and cyclists. See DevelopmentWA’s Alkimos Central overview.
The City of Wanneroo says the precinct plan provides a framework for 200 hectares. Long-range figures reported by PerthNow in 2025 for the wider precinct—not this individual shopping centre—were 2,450 homes, 250,000 square metres of office space, up to 72,000 square metres of retail and 45,000 square metres of bulky-goods space.

- Easy Rolling Cart: The Play Circle Shopping Day Grocery Cart features an adjustable handle and durable wheels that are easy to push on carpets or floors, so kids can roll pretend groceries through grocery store games, kitchen play, and room-to-room
- Child-Sized Cart: The assembled cart measures 14.75 x 10.5 x 19.75 inches, giving little hands a toy to load, steer, and push during pretend play with boxed groceries, bottles, cans, bread, eggs, and fruit.
- Everyday Role-Play: Lifelike grocery pieces help children act out familiar shopping routines by loading the basket, organizing items, and unloading food for kitchen play, while hands-on play supports fine motor practice and social pretend play.
- Age Recommendation: Recommended for kids 2 years and up who enjoy pretend play, games, grocery store role-play, and play kitchen food activities with a toy and pretend food set.
In May 2023, City of Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said nearly 60,000 new residents were forecast to call Alkimos and Eglinton home over the following 20 years. The City also described a plan to plant 20,000 trees in the Alkimos area. These are a population forecast and a planning target, not outcomes already achieved. The statements appear in the City’s 17 May 2023 announcement.

A planning document dated 15 December 2025 records that the City recommended approval subject to conditions. Centuria’s planning representative said the proponent largely supported the recommended conditions but sought a minor amendment concerning traffic modelling. That planning record is distinct from the later construction commencement reported by Centuria; see the Western Australian planning document.

What the project is intended to provide
The development application, as quoted by PerthNow, described the centre as “a significant investment in the Alkimos City Centre” intended to provide daily and weekly goods and services for residents, visitors and workers in the emerging locality. It also called the centre an urban link and focal point between Alkimos and Eglinton. These are the application’s stated aims, not a measured finding about the project’s eventual economic impact.
