The airline called it a record when it released its results on February 13, 2025. But revenue is not profit: operating income, adjusted EBITDA and net income all declined year over year.
How much revenue did Air Canada report in 2024?
Air Canada’s full-year operating revenue was C$22.255 billion in 2024, compared with C$21.833 billion in 2023. The increase was C$422 million, or 2%. The headline figure of C$22.3 billion is the rounded version of the reported amount. The company’s results release presents its financial figures in Canadian dollars.
Operating revenue is the money generated from the airline’s operations before operating expenses and other items are deducted. It is a top-line measure, not a measure of how much the company kept as profit.
Did higher revenue mean higher profit?
No. Air Canada reported lower results on each of these profitability measures in 2024 than in 2023:

| Measure | 2024 | 2023 |
|---|---|---|
| Operating income | C$1.263 billion | C$2.279 billion |
| Adjusted EBITDA | C$3.586 billion | C$3.982 billion |
| Net income | C$1.720 billion | C$2.276 billion |
These are distinct measures. Net income is the company’s reported bottom-line profit; operating income reflects operating results after operating expenses. Adjusted EBITDA is a company-defined non-GAAP measure and should not be treated as equivalent to either net income or cash flow. Air Canada separately reported C$3.930 billion in net cash flows from operating activities for 2024.
Why did expenses rise?
Air Canada’s operating expenses increased 7% to C$20.992 billion in 2024. The company cited higher costs across most line items associated with capacity growth, along with higher labour, maintenance and IT expenses. It also recorded a one-time C$490 million charge in the fourth quarter for pension-plan amendments linked to its new pilot collective agreement.

Operating capacity grew 5% year over year, while operating revenue rose 2%. Those figures show that capacity expanded faster than revenue, but the company’s release does not establish capacity growth as the sole cause of the revenue or profit changes.
Was C$22.3 billion still a record?
It was a record when Air Canada announced its 2024 results, but it is no longer the company’s latest annual revenue record. In results released on February 12, 2026, Air Canada reported C$22.372 billion in 2025 operating revenue, above the 2024 figure of C$22.255 billion.
