What does the $73 million figure mean?
Forbes’s 2024 report estimated Sandler’s 2023 pretax earnings at $73 million after fees for representation, such as agent, manager and lawyer fees where applicable. Forbes separately reported $97 million gross, before those fees. These are estimates, not audited salary disclosures. Forbes’s 2023 actor earnings list explains the period and methodology.

Forbes ranked Sandler first among actors for 2023. The ranking is specific to that earnings year; it should not be read as a statement about who is highest-paid today.
How did Sandler earn it?
Forbes associated Sandler’s earnings with three Netflix films released in 2023: Murder Mystery 2, Leo and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, as well as 44 stand-up performances that year. The report does not disclose a full project-by-project breakdown or contract terms, so it is not possible to say exactly how much each film or performance contributed.

Forbes reported that Netflix viewers streamed more than 500 million hours of Sandler films in the first half of 2023. That figure describes viewing time, not money paid to Sandler. Forbes connected his earnings to the Netflix projects and discussed how streaming deals can involve upfront payments, while theatrical films may generate compensation through profit participation. The report does not establish the specific terms of Sandler’s contracts.
When renewing Netflix’s collaboration with Sandler in 2020, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was quoted by Forbes as saying, “There’s no such thing as too much Sandler.”

A later Forbes ranking, published in 2026, estimated Sandler’s earnings after fees at $48 million for calendar year 2025 and again placed him first on that year’s actor list. Forbes’s 2025 actor earnings list concerns a different period. The $73 million and $48 million estimates should not be treated as a like-for-like measure of a pay cut or increase without accounting for each list’s methodology.
For any actor earnings comparison, check both the calendar year covered and whether the number is gross or net of representation fees. Neither Forbes figure is a guaranteed salary or an audited statement of income.
