GameMeca reported that NCSoft shares were trading at 190,600 won at 9:43 a.m. Korea time on November 19, 2025, down 33,900 won, or 15%, from the previous day. The timing made the move newsworthy: November 19 was the official Korea and Taiwan launch date. But a same-day decline does not by itself establish what caused it. What went wrong at launch?
Contemporaneous reports described server instability and player anger over monetization as factors weighing on investor sentiment. PC Gamer covered objections to purchasable power-related items and subscriptions. About 15 hours after launch, the developers held an emergency broadcast and announced changes, including pulling items from the store after a temporary update.

In PC Gamer’s translated account, development producer Kim Nam-joon said, “We were complacent and unthoughtful, and we will be pulling the items from the store after today’s temporary update.” Business division head So In-seop said, “I have no excuse to offer you, but I am truly sorry.” These are quotations as translated and reported by PC Gamer, rather than independently verified transcripts.
Did the launch cause the stock drop?
The evidence supports a sharp intraday decline occurring alongside a troubled launch and contemporaneous criticism. It does not isolate the effect of the game from other factors that can move a company’s shares, nor does it provide a market study demonstrating causation. GameMeca connected the launch problems and monetization backlash with weaker investor sentiment; PC Gamer explicitly noted that the stock move might be only tangentially related.

It is therefore more accurate to say that the decline coincided with the launch and was linked to it in contemporaneous coverage—not that the launch is proven to have caused the entire 15% move. The reported figure also refers to one point in the trading day, not a confirmed closing loss.
How did the game perform after its rocky start?
Later disclosures from NCSoft point to significant reported sales, though they do not erase the launch controversy or establish how the stock performed over the same periods.

These are figures reported by the company, not independent estimates presented here. They show why a single launch-day share quote should not be treated as a verdict on the game’s later sales.

NCSoft announced that Aion 2 would launch in Korea and Taiwan at midnight on November 19, 2025; pre-download and character customization were scheduled to begin November 16. NCSoft’s launch announcement
That initial regional release is distinct from later expansion plans. NCSoft said in its May 2026 results that a global launch was planned for the second half of that year. Separately, the official Japanese site lists October 5, 2026, as its launch date. Official Aion 2 Japan site
