Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor AT&T consumer wireless accounts on the current general discount schedule, AutoPay and paperless billing can lower the bill by $10 per phone line per month with a bank account or AT&T Points Plus Card from Citi, or $5 per line per month with a debit card. Other credit cards do not qualify for a discount under that schedule. Some customers on select retired plans may have different terms, so check your plan and bill before assuming the general rates apply.
What are AT&T’s current AutoPay discounts?
AT&T’s current general consumer wireless policy ties the discount to both AutoPay and paperless billing. The payment method sets the amount per eligible phone line:
| Payment method | General consumer wireless discount | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Bank account | $10 per phone line per month | AutoPay and paperless billing |
| AT&T Points Plus Card from Citi | $10 per phone line per month | AutoPay and paperless billing |
| Debit card | $5 per phone line per month | AutoPay and paperless billing |
| Other credit card | No discount | AT&T says there is no longer an AutoPay discount for other credit cards |
These are AT&T’s published general consumer wireless amounts, not a guarantee that every account receives the same treatment. The company notes that some existing customers on select retired wireless plans may have different discounts, but its current discount page does not list every affected plan. See AT&T’s AutoPay discount terms.
Will changing my AT&T AutoPay payment method change my monthly discount?
It can. Under the general schedule, moving from a bank account or the AT&T Points Plus Card from Citi to another credit card changes the discount from $10 per phone line to no discount. Moving from debit to another credit card changes it from $5 per line to no discount. A move to a qualifying bank account or the named card may make the higher general tier available, provided AutoPay and paperless billing are active and the account is eligible.

Is AT&T changing every customer’s bill at once?
The current published schedule describes AT&T’s general policy; it does not establish a single effective date when every customer’s bill will change. Retired-plan exceptions may apply, and the official page does not identify all qualifying legacy plans. If your bill’s discount does not match the general schedule, compare the plan and payment method on your account and ask AT&T whether a retired-plan term applies.

How long does an AutoPay or payment-method change take?
AT&T says a payment-method update may take up to two business days to process. AutoPay setup or a discount may take up to two bill periods to appear. Keep paying your bill as usual until your account shows that AutoPay is scheduled. AT&T’s support instructions, updated March 17, 2026, are on its AutoPay management page.
- Sign in to your AT&T account and review the payment method and AutoPay status.
- To change the payment type, use att.com/change or call AT&T at 800-331-0500.
- Check the account again to confirm AutoPay is scheduled, and continue making payments as usual until then.
- Review your next bills for the discount line and contact AT&T if the amount does not match the terms for your plan and payment method.
Why paperless billing matters
Paperless billing is a separate account setting from the payment method. The general consumer discount requires it alongside AutoPay, so changing to an eligible payment method alone may not be enough. AT&T says that stopping paperless billing can take up to two billing periods to result in mailed bills. Its instructions, updated February 27, 2026, explain how to manage paperless billing.

Business accounts have separate terms
Do not apply the consumer schedule to an AT&T Business account. AT&T’s small-business AutoPay guidance, updated April 27, 2026, lists a $10 monthly discount per wireless phone line for bank account or ACH payments and $5 per line for debit-card payments. Check the business account’s own terms at AT&T Business AutoPay support.
