Acorns announced an asset acquisition of EarlyBird on May 15, 2025. EarlyBird’s investing and digital-memory service later shut down: its customer accounts closed on June 23, 2025, and funds were returned to the bank accounts linked to them, rather than transferred into Acorns. Former customers can check Acorns’ current offer, but the planned time-capsule integration has not been confirmed by the available sources.
What happened to EarlyBird?
EarlyBird, founded in 2019, combined two services: family and friends could give investments to a child, and they could preserve family videos and other memories in a digital time capsule. TechCrunch reported that the investment would become the child’s at age 18, and described possible future uses such as education, a home down payment or starting a business. Account terms could vary, so those mechanics should not be assumed to have applied identically to every account.
Acorns announced that it had acquired EarlyBird’s assets on May 15, 2025. The companies did not disclose financial terms, so there is no substantiated purchase price. Acorns said the deal fit its family financial-wellness strategy, and EarlyBird co-founders Jordan Wexler and Caleb Frankel joined Acorns.
In its announcement, Acorns reported that it served more than 16 million people worldwide and that customers had saved and invested more than $33 billion. Those were company-reported figures as of May 15, 2025, not independently audited totals or current figures. CEO Noah Kerner described the strategy as helping families “grow from a baby’s earliest dollar invested all the way to their retirement fund later in life.”

Can I transfer my EarlyBird account to Acorns?
No direct transfer was available. TechCrunch reported that EarlyBird accounts closed on June 23, 2025. Funds were returned to each account’s linked bank account; customers who wanted to use Acorns had to withdraw the money and open a new account. An Acorns Early account is therefore a new account, not a continuation of an EarlyBird account with its balance moved across.
If you need to confirm an individual account’s closure or locate returned funds, contact Acorns support. The published reports do not provide account-specific payment records.

How do I get my EarlyBird money?
- Check the bank account that was linked to your EarlyBird account for the returned funds.
- If you cannot locate the funds or need confirmation of your account’s handling, contact Acorns support with your former EarlyBird account details.
- If you want to invest through Acorns, enroll in a new Acorns Early account and decide separately whether to deposit any funds you received back. Do not expect an automatic or direct balance transfer.
What is the current EarlyBird Acorns offer?
Acorns’ current EarlyBird offer page advertises two free months of Acorns Gold and a 1% match on qualifying Early Invest contributions. It directs former EarlyBird users to sign up with the same email address used for EarlyBird. This is what the page currently displays; it does not establish that every former customer is eligible or that the offer will remain available. Check the linked terms and eligibility details when enrolling.
The current page describes the Gold 1% Early Invest Match as applying to customer deposits up to $7,000 per year per Early Invest Account. It says matched funds generally must remain invested for four years or until the beneficiary reaches the applicable transfer age, whichever comes first; a withdrawal or plan downgrade can trigger recapture. Confirm the live terms before relying on the match.

The offer differs from the one reported at the time of the acquisition. TechCrunch reported in May 2025 that former EarlyBird customers were being offered one free year of Gold. That was a contemporaneous report, while the two-month offer is what Acorns’ page currently advertises; they should not be treated as simultaneous promises.
How does Acorns Early work, and what does it cost?
Acorns’ January 2026 customer agreement describes Early Invest as a custodial UGMA/UTMA account. The assets belong to the minor, who gains control at the applicable age of transfer. That age depends on state law and account elections, subject to the agreement. This structure differs from simply maintaining an EarlyBird account under a new name.

The agreement also lists features including education, allowance and chores, parental controls, family gifting and child card access. Prices, plan details and included features can change, so check Acorns’ live agreement before signing up. The promotional free months do not by themselves establish the ongoing price or the terms that apply after the offer ends.

TechCrunch reported that Acorns planned to integrate EarlyBird’s time capsule into Acorns Early later. The current offer page and the January 2026 customer agreement do not confirm that the feature has launched. Its availability is therefore unconfirmed; do not assume a new Acorns Early account includes EarlyBird’s memory archive.
