Accel announced three new funds on June 28, 2021: a $650 million US early-stage fund, a $650 million Europe and Israel early-stage fund, and a $1.75 billion growth fund. Accel rounded the combined amount to $3 billion in its announcement; the three stated fund sizes add up to $3.05 billion.
How Accel split the three funds
The vehicles were distinct by both investment stage and geographic remit, rather than one pool with a single mandate. Accel described the funds as part of its effort to back founders early and support them as they grow.
| Fund | Amount | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Fifteenth US early-stage fund | $650 million | Early-stage companies in the United States |
| Seventh Europe and Israel early-stage fund | $650 million | Early-stage companies in Europe and Israel |
| Sixth growth fund | $1.75 billion | Growth-stage investing globally |
The fund names, sizes, and stated focus come from Accel’s June 28, 2021 announcement. The $3.05 billion figure is the arithmetic sum of those amounts, also reported by TechCrunch on June 29, 2021.
What the 2021 investment plans meant
At the time, Accel partner Rich Wong told TechCrunch the firm expected to invest in about 20 to 30 companies per fund on average. Wong also said, “We’ll still write $500,000 to $1 million seed checks,” and described the firm’s aim as working with companies from their beginnings through their growth. These were 2021 statements about expected strategy, not current or guaranteed investment terms.

TechCrunch reported that average investments were expected to be $50 million to $75 million from the growth fund. It separately reported expected average investments of $75 million to $100 million from Accel’s global Leaders fund. Those ranges were reported expectations, not promises to any particular company.
The Leaders fund was separate capital
The Leaders fund was not one of the three funds announced in June 2021. TechCrunch reported that Accel had closed that separate $2.3 billion global fund in December 2020. The distinction matters when interpreting the figures: the $3.05 billion sum covers the three new 2021 vehicles only, not the earlier Leaders fund.

The 2021 total is historical, not Accel’s current fundraising total. On August 11, 2026, Accel announced a separate $3.5 billion raise across four vehicles supporting early-stage strategies in the US, Europe, Israel, and India, as well as larger initial investments and follow-ons. In its announcement, the Accel partners said the vehicles were “dedicated to backing founders from the outset.” TechCrunch’s August 11, 2026 account identified a $550 million India fund and a $1.35 billion growth vehicle within that fundraising.
