9 checks to make before applying for AdSense
1. Publish content you own
Google expects applicants to have their own content. It describes eligible content as “high-quality, original, and attract an audience.” If your site uses outside articles, images, or embedded media, add meaningful original expertise, analysis, improvements, reviews, or perspective rather than relying on material copied or republished from elsewhere. Google’s eligibility guidance explains the basic requirement.
2. Make the site useful and distinctive
Originality is not just a matter of changing wording. Give visitors relevant information, insight, or help that makes your pages worth using. Google recommends unique, original, relevant material and warns against scraped or copied content in its site-readiness guidance.
3. Make navigation clear
Visitors should be able to find what they came for and understand how to use each page. Organize related content logically, use descriptive navigation labels, and avoid layouts that make the main content hard to locate. Google presents usability as readiness guidance, not a published scoring formula.
4. Follow Google’s publisher policies
Review the Google Publisher Policies and make sure they are followed across pages that carry ad code. You are responsible for policy compliance on your site, including user-generated material and links. Violations can prevent ads from appearing or result in account suspension or termination.

5. Use legitimate traffic sources
Traffic must not be manipulated to generate ad impressions or clicks. Google identifies practices such as paid-to-click schemes, click exchanges, unsolicited mass email promotion, and software that triggers ads or interferes with navigation as prohibited. Never encourage visitors to click ads or click your own ads. See Google’s invalid-traffic guidance.
6. Keep ads clearly separate from content
Do not make ads look like editorial material, use misleading images or labels, or direct visitors to click them. Ad placement should not deceive users or make the page difficult to navigate. Google’s ad placement and invalid-traffic guidance covers these practices.
7. Meet the age requirement—or have an adult apply
Applicants must be at least 18. If you are younger, a parent or guardian can apply using their own Google Account. If the account is approved, payments are made to that adult. This requirement is stated in Google’s eligibility guidance.

8. Be able to implement AdSense on your site
For a website application, you generally need access to the site’s HTML source so you can add the AdSense code. Google states, “To use AdSense, you must have access to the HTML source code of your site.” Some content-management systems and hosted platforms offer a setup route that does not require manually adding code. Check Google’s site ownership guidance for the implementation requirement and host-specific details.
9. Use the right application route for your platform
Website AdSense and YouTube monetization are different application paths. Blogger users should sign up through Blogger’s host-partner flow. YouTube creators apply for AdSense for YouTube through YouTube Studio after meeting the channel’s monetization eligibility requirements. Do not treat YouTube Partner Program thresholds as website AdSense requirements; consult Google’s eligibility guidance and site ownership guidance for the relevant route.
Policy violations and restricted content are not the same
Google distinguishes content prohibited by its Publisher Policies from content covered by Publisher Restrictions. Restricted content is not automatically a policy violation, but advertisers may choose not to bid on it, which can mean fewer ads or none. Check the current Google Publisher Restrictions alongside the policies.
What Google does not specify as a universal threshold
The official eligibility and readiness pages reviewed do not state a universal minimum number of posts, monthly visitors, or months a website must exist before applying. Google’s statement that content should attract an audience is qualitative; it is not a numeric traffic cutoff. Focus on useful original coverage and a functional site rather than relying on unsupported approval formulas.
