The evidence does not support the older headline count of nine routes. The summer season ran from 29 March to 24 October 2026; this schedule snapshot was checked on 26 March, so it is not a guarantee of the aircraft on any particular flight.
Which Lufthansa routes had 747-400 service in summer 2026?
AeroRoutes’ 27 March 2026 report, based on schedule filings checked on 26 March, identifies these three Frankfurt routes. The report describes planned assignments, not a complete operational record or a live confirmation for individual departures.

For Boston, the flight numbers matter: the route did not mean that every Frankfurt–Boston departure used the same aircraft. For Houston and San Francisco, check the specific departure because a route-level assignment does not guarantee the aircraft on an individual date.
Why the count is three, not nine
The schedule evidence cited for Northern summer 2026 supports three routes, not nine. It also records planned aircraft changes and assignments that were not retained, so an older or preliminary route list can overstate where the 747-400 was ultimately scheduled. The count here is limited to the routes identified in AeroRoutes’ 26 March schedule snapshot; it should not be read as a definitive record of every aircraft that operated during the season.

Do not confuse the 747-400 with the 747-8
The Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 are different variants. Lufthansa’s Japan route schedule listed LH717/LH716 between Frankfurt and Tokyo Haneda as a 747-8 for 29 March–24 October 2026. That is not evidence of a 747-400 assignment on the route.
Likewise, winter 2026/27 schedule changes are a separate season and cannot be added to the summer list. A winter report published on 18 August 2026 covers assignments for that later period, including Frankfurt–Houston service in a specified winter window; it does not change the summer 2026 route count.

How to check the aircraft for your flight
- Find the exact flight number. On Frankfurt–Boston, distinguish LH422/423 from the separately listed LH420/421 service.
- Check your travel date against the assignment window. The San Francisco 747-400 listing ended on 31 May 2026; the other two routes were listed for the full Northern summer season, 29 March–24 October.
- Confirm the aircraft with Lufthansa for that date. Aircraft assignments can change after a schedule report is published. A route or season listing is not a guarantee that a particular departure will use a 747-400.
- Check the variant, not just “747.” A listing for a 747-8 does not mean a 747-400.
What to know about the 747-400 cabin
Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-400 reference page lists two seat-map configurations: 67 business, 32 premium economy and 272 economy seats; or 53 business, 32 premium economy and 308 economy seats. The same reference lists a length of 70.66 metres and a wingspan of 64.44 metres. These are aircraft reference details, not confirmation of the layout or seats available on a particular flight.
