Re:

FP Markets vs. Pepperstone: Which Broker Is Better?

Pepperstone is stronger for no minimum deposit and no inactivity fee, while FP Markets offers a larger advertised instrument range. Your country and contracting entity determine the final answer.

Short answer: Pepperstone is the easier choice for most cost-conscious traders who want no minimum deposit, several major platforms, and no inactivity fee. FP Markets may be the better fit if you need its larger advertised instrument selection, Iress or Mottai in an eligible region, or prefer its account structure.

That answer changes with your country. FP Markets and Pepperstone operate through different legal entities, and the entity accepting your application determines your leverage, fees, available products, and investor protections. Neither broker should be treated as a currently available U.S. retail forex or CFD option based on the information reviewed.

The comparison below uses official broker information checked on August 8, 2026. Advertised spreads and leverage are not guarantees of the price or terms you will receive.

FP Markets vs. Pepperstone: quick comparison

Feature FP Markets Pepperstone
Minimum deposit International page: US$100 or equivalent. Australian pages show AU$100, while an Australian FAQ says AU$500 for several account types. No minimum deposit for a live account, although the trade still needs enough margin.
Forex account types Standard and Raw Standard and Razor
Raw pricing Spreads from 0.0 pips; international commission listed at US$3 per lot per side. Australian page lists AU$3.50 per side. Razor spreads from 0.0 points; MT4/MT5 commission from US$3.50 per standard lot per side in a USD account.
Platforms MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView; Iress and Mottai in selected regional setups Pepperstone platform, MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView
Advertised market range 10,000+ instruments, including shares, forex, indices, commodities, bonds, ETFs and digital currencies More than 1,400 CFDs on the cited EU page, with regional and platform-specific counts varying
Inactivity fee Saint Lucia agreement: US$10 per month after 90 continuous days of qualifying inactivity when funds remain No inactivity fee; very low-balance dormant accounts may be archived
Maximum leverage International page: up to 1:500; Australia retail page: 1:30 Depends on jurisdiction and client classification; UK/EU retail limits include 30:1 for major forex pairs

Availability and regulation come first

A comparison based only on brand names can give the wrong answer. You do not receive the protection of every regulator listed on a broker’s global website. Your protection comes from the legal entity named in your client agreement.

FP Markets says its group operates through entities regulated by ASIC, CySEC, FSCA, Seychelles FSA, Kenya’s CMA, Mauritius FSC and the Bahamas SCB. Pepperstone lists regulation by ASIC, SCB, SCA, FCA, DFSA, CMA, BaFin and CySEC. Those group-wide lists are not a promise that you can choose any one of those entities.

FP Markets explicitly lists the United States among jurisdictions where it does not offer services. Pepperstone’s UK site also says its information is not intended for U.S. residents. Prospective clients should check the live application for their own country rather than infer eligibility from a global homepage.

Accounts, deposits and leverage

FP Markets

On the cited international account page, FP Markets lists a US$100 minimum deposit for both Standard and Raw accounts. Its Standard account has spreads from 1.0 pips and no separate commission. Its Raw account has spreads from 0.0 pips and a listed commission of US$3 per lot per side.

Do not carry those figures over automatically to Australia. FP Markets’ Australian account page shows a AU$100 minimum deposit, 1:30 maximum retail leverage and AU$3.50-per-side Raw commission. Its Australian FAQ currently says the minimum initial deposit for MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView accounts is AU$500. That is a direct inconsistency between official pages, so an Australian applicant should confirm the amount during onboarding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pepperstone

Pepperstone says it has no minimum deposit for a live account. This is more flexible than FP Markets’ published international minimum, but it does not make every small account practical. You still need enough equity to cover the position’s margin and withstand market movements.

For example, Pepperstone’s own explanation says a 0.60-lot EUR/USD position at 30:1 leverage requires approximately €2,000 in margin. A “no minimum deposit” policy therefore should not be confused with a recommendation to trade with a very small balance.

Pepperstone lists 0.01 lots as the minimum trade size and 100 lots as the maximum on its trading-account information. Leverage depends on the onboarding entity and whether you are classified as retail or professional. UK and EU retail examples include 30:1 for major currency pairs and 20:1 for minor currency pairs, major indices and gold.

FP Markets’ international page displays leverage up to 1:500, while its Australian retail page displays 1:30. The higher number is not a fair comparison with Pepperstone’s regulated retail limits unless the client, entity and classification are identical.

Which broker has lower trading costs?

Neither broker is automatically cheaper. The relevant calculation is:

Total trading cost = spread cost + commission + conversion charges + overnight funding and any instrument-specific fees.

Standard accounts

FP Markets’ Standard account incorporates its charge into the spread and does not add a separate forex commission. Pepperstone’s Standard account also has no separate FX commission, but Pepperstone says it applies a 1-pip markup to the raw spread.

Pepperstone publishes EUR/USD Razor figures of a 0.0-pip minimum and 0.1-pip average, compared with a 1.0-pip minimum and 1.1-pip average on Standard. Those averages were based on May 1–31, 2026 data and are not guaranteed live quotes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Raw and Razor accounts

Raw and Razor accounts generally suit traders who want a tighter underlying spread and are comfortable paying commission separately.

  • FP Markets Raw: the cited international page lists US$3 per standard lot per side. Its Australian page lists AU$3.50 per side, and other account currencies and platforms can have different equivalents.
  • Pepperstone Razor: MT4 and MT5 commission starts at US$3.50 per standard lot per side in a USD account. Pepperstone lists different equivalents for GBP, EUR and CHF accounts.

Pepperstone also uses different commission conventions on cTrader and TradingView. Its general pricing explanation gives cTrader as US$6 round trip per unit and TradingView as US$7 round trip per unit. Since cTrader calculations can be expressed using units of the first currency in the pair, read the platform-specific schedule before comparing it with a per-lot quote.

For either broker, “spreads from 0.0” means the minimum observed or advertised spread—not a spread you will continuously receive. Spreads can widen around news, market openings, rollovers and periods of low liquidity. A proper test compares the same currency pair, account type, platform, account currency and measurement period.

Platforms and automated trading

Pepperstone offers its proprietary Pepperstone Trading Platform alongside MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. Its comparison information lists browser and mobile access for the major platforms. Downloaded MT4 and MT5 versions support Windows and Mac, while downloaded cTrader is listed as Windows-only.

Pepperstone lists automated trading for MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, but not for its proprietary platform. That matters if you use Expert Advisors, algorithmic strategies or backtesting as part of your process.

FP Markets offers MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. It also advertises Iress and Mottai in selected regional arrangements. The international account page associates Standard accounts with MT4, MT5 and cTrader, while Raw accounts also include TradingView. Iress pricing, minimum balances and brokerage charges are separate from the standard MT4/MT5/cTrader forex-account schedule.

Platform winner: Pepperstone has the clearer proprietary-platform offering. FP Markets has an advantage if you specifically need Iress or Mottai and those platforms are available through your regional entity.

Markets and product range

FP Markets advertises more than 10,000 financial instruments, including over 70 forex pairs, shares, indices, commodities, metals, bonds, ETFs and digital currencies. This gives it the stronger headline market-breadth claim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pepperstone’s cited EU markets page lists more than 1,400 CFDs, including 90-plus currency pairs, 1,100-plus underlying shares, 20-plus indices and 40 commodity markets. Its platform page gives different approximate counts, including 93 forex products, 1,400 share CFDs, 26 indices, 40 commodities, 31 cryptocurrencies and 95 ETFs.

These figures are not directly interchangeable. Brokers may count individual share symbols, contracts and regional products differently. FP Markets’ 10,000-plus figure does not mean 10,000 forex pairs, nor does it mean every instrument is available on every platform or in every country.

Funding, withdrawals and account administration

FP Markets

To make a deposit, FP Markets’ stated path is:

  1. Log in to the Client Portal.
  2. Select Funding on the left.
  3. Choose Deposit.
  4. Select the trading account.
  5. Click Submit.

Withdrawals generally must go to a bank account in the same name as the trading account. FP Markets does not accept third-party payments. Card deposits are refunded to the card, while profits are transferred to a bank account in the same name. Payment-provider or bank charges may still apply, even where FP Markets covers visible processor fees for MT4/MT5 accounts.

Pepperstone

Pepperstone says it charges no deposit fees. Its support information lists a US$20 fee for international bank-wire withdrawals; your bank, card issuer, intermediary bank or payment provider may impose additional charges. Withdrawal requests may take up to three business days to process, after which the payment provider controls delivery time.

To check funding activity, use Secure Client Area → Funds → History. To move money between Pepperstone accounts, use Funds → Transfer Funds, select the source and destination accounts, enter the amount and confirm. Transfers below 0.99 units of the account currency cannot be processed.

Inactivity fees and dormant accounts

This is one of the clearest differences.

Under the current Saint Lucia FP Markets client agreement, an account becomes dormant or inactive after 90 continuous days without trading, an open position, deposit, withdrawal or login to the trading platform. If funds remain, FP Markets may charge US$10 per month, or the account-currency equivalent. The account may be archived when the balance reaches US$10 or less.

Pepperstone says it charges no inactivity fee. Accounts with less than 10 currency units that have not been used for more than three months may be archived, but Pepperstone says an archived account can be reactivated or replaced through the Secure Client Area.

For occasional traders, long-term investors using CFDs, or anyone who may leave an account unused, Pepperstone has the more favorable policy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What about demo accounts?

Both brokers offer demo accounts, but demo performance is not proof of live execution. Pepperstone explicitly warns that execution differences mean identical trades will not necessarily produce identical results. Spreads, slippage, liquidity and order handling can differ in live markets.

Pepperstone’s demo-expiry rules also vary by platform and region. One current page says Trader and TradingView demos expire after 90 days of inactivity, while another support page gives a 60-day period for some MT4/MT5 arrangements. Check the terms attached to the demo you open.

How to make the final choice

  1. Identify the contracting entity. Find the legal company in the application and client agreement, not just the regulator list on the homepage.
  2. Confirm eligibility. This is especially important for U.S. residents, whom the cited sites do not identify as eligible retail clients.
  3. Compare a realistic trade. Use your usual pair, position size, holding period and account currency. Include both spread and commission.
  4. Check overnight funding. A broker with a slightly cheaper entry cost may be more expensive if you regularly hold leveraged positions overnight.
  5. Verify the platform. Confirm that your preferred version of MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView, Iress or Mottai is available for your account.
  6. Read the funding terms. Check withdrawal methods, same-name requirements, processing times and possible bank or intermediary charges.
  7. Confirm leverage and protection. Do not select a broker because of a 1:500 headline if your retail account is actually limited to 1:30 or another regulatory cap.

FAQ

Is FP Markets better than Pepperstone?

Not universally. Pepperstone is stronger for no minimum deposit, platform variety and no inactivity fee. FP Markets may suit traders who value its larger advertised instrument range or need Iress or Mottai in an eligible region.

Does Pepperstone really have no minimum deposit?

Pepperstone currently says it has no minimum deposit for a live account. You still need enough money to satisfy margin requirements for the position you want to open.

What is the minimum deposit for FP Markets?

It depends on the entity and page. The cited international page says US$100, Australian account pages show AU$100, and an Australian FAQ says AU$500 for several account types. Confirm the amount during application.

Which broker has lower forex spreads?

Neither can be declared cheaper from minimum spreads alone. Pepperstone publishes a 0.1-pip EUR/USD Razor average for May 1–31, 2026, while FP Markets’ cited pages primarily advertise minimum spreads. Compare the same pair, account, platform, currency and period, including commission.

Does FP Markets charge an inactivity fee?

The current Saint Lucia client agreement allows a US$10 monthly fee after 90 continuous days of qualifying inactivity when funds remain. Rules may differ for other FP Markets entities.

Does Pepperstone charge an inactivity fee?

Pepperstone says it does not charge an inactivity fee. It may archive very low-balance accounts that have not traded for more than three months.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can U.S. residents open an account with either broker?

The reviewed FP Markets site explicitly excludes United States residents, and Pepperstone’s UK site says its information is not intended for U.S. residents. Do not assume eligibility; check the live application for a regulated U.S. entity.

Which broker offers more markets?

FP Markets advertises 10,000-plus instruments, while Pepperstone’s cited EU page lists more than 1,400 CFDs. The counts use different methods and vary by region and platform, so they are not a direct measure of which broker has more usable products for you.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Pepperstone is the better default choice for many traders because its current policy has no minimum deposit, it offers a broad platform lineup including its own app, and it does not charge an inactivity fee. FP Markets is worth considering when its instrument selection, Iress or Mottai access, or account pricing better matches your strategy.

Before opening either account, check the legal entity, country-specific leverage, commission schedule, platform availability and withdrawal terms. The right decision is not the broker advertising the lowest spread or highest leverage; it is the one whose fully disclosed costs and protections fit the way you actually trade.
