There is no verified, like-for-like top-ten ranking of the rarest Ferraris in the available production records, and a past auction result is not a current appraisal. The cars below are a curated selection of exceptionally scarce Ferraris with documented sale evidence where available. Prices are for specific cars at dated transactions, not guaranteed values for every example of the model.
What are the rarest Ferraris—and how should “worth” be read?
Rarity and price overlap, but they are not the same ranking. A model’s production total is only one factor in what a particular car brings: configuration, racing record, provenance, originality, and condition also matter. Auction figures below are historical public results, not current market quotes. They are kept in the currency reported by the source; no currency conversion is implied.
The evidence supports a selection of scarce, significant Ferraris—not a definitive ranking of the ten rarest models. For some entries, a production count is documented; for others, the available evidence establishes a notable transaction or condition-specific distinction but not a total production figure.

Ferrari 250 GTO (1962), chassis 3413 GT
RM Sotheby’s describes the 250 GTO as one of 36 built. The auction house reported that chassis 3413 GT sold for $48,405,000 at its Monterey sale in August 2018. That is a result for this specific car, not a current appraisal of all 250 GTOs. RM Sotheby’s lot listing identifies the car’s special Series II coachwork. [c001]

Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider beyond chassis 10709
The reported $27,500,000 result is for chassis 10709 at RM Auctions in August 2013. It is not a current asking price or an appraisal of another car, and a comparable production count is not established here. Gstaad Concours d’Elegance. [c003]
The ten entries above are not ten independently verified production rankings: several separate a documented transaction from a model-wide count that is not established here. This avoids presenting missing production figures or prices as if they were known.

Collector value reflects several interacting attributes; none supplies a formula that guarantees a particular sale price. Gstaad Concours d’Elegance identifies provenance, rarity, condition, originality, and competition history as relevant factors, noting that famous previous owners and racing success can increase desirability. Gstaad Concours d’Elegance. [c006]
- Production and configuration: A model’s total production is different from the number built in a particular body style, series, or factory configuration. The 250 GTO listing highlights special Series II coachwork; the California Spider listing identifies a covered-headlamp subset within its 56-example run. [c001] [c005]
- Competition history and provenance: Documented race results and ownership records can distinguish two cars of the same model. [c006]
- Originality and condition: Matching components, restoration quality, and unrestored status can affect collector appeal. The Testa Rossa’s “sole unrestored example” description speaks to condition, not total production. [c004] [c006]
- Transaction context: Sale date, venue, currency, and whether the transaction was public or private all matter. A public auction result and an undisclosed private sale are not equivalent price evidence. [c001] [c003] [c004]
How to use auction prices as financial comparables
A headline result is a reference point, not a quote for a car you own or plan to buy. To make a comparison useful, match the underlying evidence as closely as possible:

- Identify the exact car and specification. Compare chassis and configuration, not just the model name.
- Check the car’s record. Assess documented provenance, competition history, originality, and condition rather than assuming another example shares the sale car’s attributes.
- Keep the transaction details attached to the number. Record the sale year, venue, currency, and whether the price was publicly reported. Do not treat a private sale with no disclosed price as a numeric comparable.
- Do not convert or update a historical result without evidence. The figures here are reported in their original currencies and dates; they do not establish a current market value.
