WVDNR also lists combination and sportsman packages, three-year options, junior classes, senior and lifetime licenses, and a free special license for qualifying people age 20 or younger with a life-threatening condition. These have distinct eligibility and stamp rules; use the full 2026 fee schedule to check the exact class and cost.
Check for required stamps
In addition to the base license, applicable resident license classes require a $5 Conservation Stamp (Class CS). Applicable nonresident classes require a $13 Conservation/Law Enforcement Stamp (Class CS/LE). WVDNR’s 2026 schedule lists these stamp fees and the classes to which they apply.

Anglers fishing for trout generally need a trout stamp even if they do not plan to keep trout. The 2026 schedule lists the resident trout stamp (Class O) at $10 and the nonresident stamp (Class OO) at $16. The resident trout-stamp requirement has specified exceptions, including certain combination and senior classes. Check the conditions for your chosen class in the fee schedule and at checkout rather than assuming every license has identical requirements.

When does a 2026 license expire?
An annual license is valid for the calendar year, not for 12 months from the date you buy it. WVDNR states that 2025 licenses and stamps expired on December 31, and new credentials are required before taking part in a 2026 season. Licensed anglers must carry valid identification while fishing, as stated in the 2026 West Virginia Fishing Regulations Summary.
