No—General Motors has not announced a Pontiac comeback. Trademark filings, a joke advertisement and social-media posts have revived fan speculation, but none establishes a plan to build new Pontiac vehicles. GM still lists Pontiac as a discontinued brand and directs existing owners to parts and service support.
Has GM announced that Pontiac is returning?
No. The public materials covered here do not show GM announcing a Pontiac relaunch, a new Pontiac lineup or a new Firebird or Trans Am. The distinction matters: a trademark filing, a joke or a social-media post can spark attention without committing a company to designing, producing or selling a vehicle.
GM’s current discontinued-brands page lists Pontiac alongside Hummer, Oldsmobile, Saturn and Saab. It offers guidance for owners seeking parts and service; that support is not evidence of new production.
What sparked the comeback speculation?
Firebird trademark filings covered non-automotive goods, according to reporting
GM Authority reported that GM filed a Firebird word mark and a figurative Firebird logo application with the EUIPO on July 28, 2025. According to that report, the listed goods included novelty signs made from metal, aluminum or wood—not automobiles. The outlet characterized the filings as intellectual-property protection. A filing with that reported scope does not show that GM has approved a new Firebird or a Pontiac relaunch. Read the report on the filings.

The “Pontiac Is Back” ad was a joke, GM said
A back-page Car and Driver ad in 2024 claimed “Pontiac Is Back,” prompting renewed speculation. GM’s reported clarification was direct: “We understand the ad was a joke and it was not placed by GM or anyone affiliated with GM. We appreciate the passion for all our brands as well as a good sense of humor.” The report does not identify an individual GM speaker. The ad was not an official GM campaign. GM Authority’s account of the ad and clarification.
Social-media jokes are not a product announcement
GM Authority described an October 2025 video joking about people who follow GM only to comment “bring back Pontiac,” as well as a June Threads post asking, “Are people still hungry? Because we could eat a Pontiac.” The reporting identifies no model, launch timing or formal relaunch announcement in these posts. They are humor and online conversation, not a commitment to manufacture a car. Read the social-media report.

What does GM’s current portfolio say?
In a July 21, 2026 shareholder letter, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra described priorities including next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra launches, software and services, manufacturing and sourcing efficiency, GM Defense and GM Insurance. Barra wrote: “Our vehicle portfolio continues to get stronger, with the launch of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD starting in December.” The letter does not announce Pontiac’s return. Its silence is useful context about what GM highlighted at that time, but it does not prove the brand could never return. Read GM’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter.
Do the Firebird filings mean a new Trans Am is coming?
No conclusion like that is supported by the reported filing scope. The cited report says the goods were novelty signs, not automobiles, and none of the other reported signals supplies a model, production decision or launch date. A Firebird name or logo appearing in a filing is not the same as an announcement that GM will sell a new car under that name.

Can Pontiac owners still get parts?
GM’s discontinued-brands page says GM Genuine and ACDelco are sources for original-equipment and aftermarket parts and components for Pontiac vehicles. It also links owners to recall checks and service information. This is general guidance, not a guarantee that a particular part is in stock, fits a specific vehicle or is available through every retailer.
- Identify the vehicle’s year, model and the exact part needed.
- Check the part number and vehicle fitment before buying; a generic Pontiac listing is not enough to confirm compatibility.
- Compare the part’s condition and seller details, particularly when shopping for replacement parts.
GM’s page names GM Genuine and ACDelco as parts sources, but does not verify any particular marketplace listing. Check GM’s discontinued-vehicle support guidance.
