Cher’s reported property history spans a Manhattan penthouse, homes in Malibu and Venice, a Beverly Hills bungalow, and a Hawaii house she mentioned in a 2010 interview. The best-documented centerpiece is her Italian Renaissance-inspired Malibu mansion, but published accounts differ on its size and bedroom count. Listing reports and historical records do not establish where she lives today or provide a complete current inventory.
Cher’s reported homes at a glance
| Property | Period or reported outcome | Reported details |
|---|---|---|
| Silk Building penthouse, Manhattan | Acquired in the 1980s; reportedly sold in 1990 | Architectural Digest describes a 4,500-square-foot unit and a $1.6 million sale to Russell Simmons. |

Realtor.com later describes 13,200 square feet and seven bedrooms. |
| Venice home | Listed in March 2013 | Los Angeles Times reported a listing just below $1.9 million and a public-record purchase price of $1,542,500 about three years earlier. |
| Beverly Hills bungalow | Reportedly sold in 2018 | Architectural Digest reports a $2.145 million purchase and a sale for about $2.07 million. |
| Hawaii house and an apartment “in town” | Mentioned by Cher in 2010 | Her interview statement does not identify a city for the apartment or establish current ownership. |
These are reported chapters, not a verified list of properties Cher owns now. Purchase prices, asking prices, and reported sale prices refer to different transactions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Malibu: the signature mansion
Design and reported dimensions
Architectural Digest’s 2022 retrospective describes the Malibu estate as Italian Renaissance-inspired, with design influences from Venice. Its account highlights marble details, limestone fireplaces, ocean views, and an infinity pool, and says Cher worked on the home with designer Ron Wilson. AD reports that the property was acquired for $2.95 million and describes a 16,000-square-foot house with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms: Architectural Digest’s account.
Later coverage does not use the same measurements. Realtor.com’s July 22, 2026 retrospective describes a custom-built house completed in 1999, measuring 13,200 square feet, with seven bedrooms on nearly two acres. The accounts may reflect different descriptions or changes over time; the sources provided do not resolve the discrepancy. Treat each measurement as that outlet’s reported figure rather than a single definitive specification.

Listing history is not proof of a sale
Realtor.com reports that the mansion was listed for $85 million in 2022, reduced to $75 million in May 2023, and delisted in August 2024. The article says records still associated the property with the trust used to purchase it. Those details establish a reported asking-price history and record association—not a completed sale, current occupancy, or a confirmed current market value. See Realtor.com’s July 2026 retrospective.
In the listing context, Cher described the house as “one of the greatest passions of my life” and said, “I have enjoyed every moment of its creation and evolution, but now it’s time to pass this magic on to others,” as quoted by Realtor.com from Architectural Digest. The remarks convey her attachment and the stated reason for marketing the home; they do not establish that a sale followed.

A separate earlier Malibu listing
The Los Angeles Times reported in August 2001 that Cher had finished building a Malibu house and had quietly put it on the market for $25 million. The article said she had bought the land seven or eight years earlier. Because this is an earlier account and the sources do not establish whether it describes the same property as the later mansion coverage, it should be kept separate rather than folded into the later home’s timeline: Los Angeles Times, August 12, 2001.
Manhattan: the Silk Building penthouse
Architectural Digest reports that Cher acquired a penthouse in Manhattan’s Silk Building during the 1980s, becoming the building’s first residential owner. The retrospective describes a 4,500-square-foot unit with personal design choices and says she sold it to Russell Simmons in 1990 for $1.6 million. These are AD’s historical account and reported transaction details, not an indication of a present-day New York residence: Architectural Digest’s property retrospective.

Venice Beach: a contemporary home listed in 2013
In a March 22, 2013 report, the Los Angeles Times described Cher’s Venice home as a contemporary property with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, high ceilings, sliding glass walls, and two fireplaces. It also listed an outdoor shower and a roof deck with a barbecue, sink, and refrigerator. The paper reported that she listed it for slightly less than $1.9 million and that public records showed a purchase price of $1,542,500 about three years earlier. The listing is historical evidence, not proof of present ownership or a completed sale: Los Angeles Times, March 22, 2013.
Beverly Hills: an English Tudor-style bungalow
Architectural Digest’s 2022 retrospective also reports a Beverly Hills English Tudor-style bungalow with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a wraparound porch, koi pond, waterfall, and meditation area. It gives a purchase price of $2.145 million and says the home sold in 2018 for about $2.07 million. These are the outlet’s reported historical figures; the purchase and sale amounts describe separate transactions.

What Cher said about a Hawaii house and an apartment
In a Vanity Fair interview published in December 2010, Cher said she had “an apartment in town—for absolutely no reason—and a house in Hawaii.” The remark is a dated first-person snapshot. It does not name the town, identify the properties, or show whether she retained either one afterward: Vanity Fair, December 2010.

The cited accounts do not establish Cher’s current residence or provide a complete, independently confirmed inventory of her present holdings. Realtor.com’s report that records continued to associate the Malibu mansion with its purchasing trust is not enough to confirm that she lives there or owns it personally today. The most reliable way to read this portfolio is as a timeline of reported homes and transactions, with each outlet’s dates and qualifications attached.
