Both former footballers pursued business after their playing careers, but the available reporting does not establish that either made “serious money” from it. Dexter Blackstock founded MediConnect, a pharmaceutical technology company, and Jota Peleteiro has been associated with Groinn, an agricultural technology venture. Neither a verified personal earnings figure nor evidence that Peleteiro’s company is worth €700 million appears in the reporting cited here.
What the available evidence says about their money
Business activity is not the same as personal income. The reporting describes ventures and their aims, but does not disclose audited post-football earnings for either man. It also does not establish either man’s net worth or show how much of a company’s value, if any, belongs to him personally.
| Former player | Reported business activity | What is established financially |
|---|---|---|
| Dexter Blackstock | Founded MediConnect, a pharmaceutical technology company; helped source personal protective equipment (PPE) during the 2020 pandemic. | No verified personal earnings figure. The reported PPE fundraising was charitable, not his income. |
| Jota Peleteiro | Associated with Groinn, an agricultural technology venture, and joint ventures involving other companies. | No independently verified company valuation, revenue, ownership structure, or personal earnings figure in the cited reporting. |
Dexter Blackstock: MediConnect and pandemic PPE work
Blackstock retired from football in 2017. BBC Sport reported that he left Rotherham United by mutual consent on 12 July that year, aged 31; Sporting Life also described him as having retired in 2017 (BBC Sport; Sporting Life).
A company founded after retirement
Sporting Life described Blackstock as the founder and chief executive of MediConnect, a pharmaceutical firm using blockchain-related technology. Blackstock told the outlet, “I started the company up not long after I retired,” and said it had helped him adjust to life after football. Small Business UK reported that MediConnect was founded in 2017 and described its intended role in addressing risks such as patients obtaining prescriptions from multiple online pharmacies and counterfeit medicines (Small Business UK).

Those accounts explain the company’s purpose and Blackstock’s involvement; they do not establish how much revenue it generated, whether it achieved adoption at the scale he hoped for, or how much Blackstock personally earned. Small Business UK quotes him discussing the technology’s potential to scale, which is an aspiration rather than proof of commercial success.
The PPE fundraiser was charitable, not personal income
During the COVID-19 emergency, Blackstock used supplier relationships to help source PPE. Sporting Life reported that donated funds were used to buy PPE at cost for distribution to hospices, care homes, and other places in need. As of 19 May 2020, the fundraiser had raised nearly £25,000 and had a stated goal of exceeding £1 million. That dated figure describes charitable fundraising—not company revenue, profit, or Blackstock’s personal earnings (Sporting Life).

Jota Peleteiro: Groinn and the €700 million claim
In a 2025 Telecinco interview, Peleteiro discussed Groinn, an agricultural technology venture, as well as joint ventures involving other companies. He rejected the claim that he had said his company was worth €700 million, saying: “Yo no he dicho que su valor sea de 700 millones, eso lo ha dicho un analista” (“I have not said that its value is 700 million; an analyst said that”) (Telecinco).
The figure should not be presented as confirmed company value, cash, or Peleteiro’s personal fortune. Telecinco’s account does not independently verify Groinn’s valuation, revenues, ownership structure, or Peleteiro’s personal earnings. An analyst’s estimate or projection, even if reported, is not evidence that a company has realized that value or that its founder personally received that amount.

What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Blackstock started MediConnect shortly after retiring and was reported as its founder and CEO.
- Peleteiro has been associated in reporting with Groinn and agricultural technology.
- The available accounts document business activity and stated aims, but do not give verified post-football personal earnings for either man.
- The nearly £25,000 PPE fundraiser total is a time-specific charitable figure, not a measure of Blackstock’s wealth.
- The €700 million claim is disputed and unverified; it is not a substantiated figure for Peleteiro’s personal wealth.
So the careful answer to whether they made serious money is that the cited reporting cannot confirm it. It shows that both pursued ventures after football, not what either ultimately earned from them.
