Those are prices paid for specific cars, not a guaranteed current value for every Boss 429. Condition, originality, mileage, documentation and the exact model year all matter, and the available sales records do not provide enough consistent detail to calculate precise adjustments.
Recent 1969 Boss 429 sale prices
| Car and sale | Reported result | What the record establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 1969 Boss 429, VIN 9F02Z198778; Mecum Glendale, Arizona; March 21, 2025 | $269,500 realized sale price | Hagerty’s record identifies the car and auction date. The available record does not provide uniform detail on condition and originality for a like-for-like comparison. Hagerty sale record |
| 1969 Boss 429, VIN 9F02Z158672; Mecum Kissimmee; January 16, 2026 | $319,000 realized sale price | Hagerty’s record identifies the car and auction date; mileage and condition disclosures differ from the 2025 example. Hagerty sale record |
These two results show that a 1969 Boss 429 has sold for prices in the high-$200,000s to low-$300,000s in the cited examples. They do not establish a reliable range for all 1969 cars or show that one feature alone explains the difference.
How the broader Boss 429 market compares
Marque’s U.S. auction-results tracker reports 45 Boss 429 sales from January 16, 2022, through September 26, 2026: a $360,000 median, a $209,000 low and a $660,000 high. Its tally includes both 1969 and 1970 cars, so the $360,000 median is not a 1969-only estimate. Marque also cautions that its aggregated figures may contain errors or omissions. The aggregate is useful as broad context, but it should not replace a sale comparison for a particular 1969 car. It combines different model years and individual vehicles, while the two dated 1969 results above identify specific transactions.

A valuation guide is not an auction result
Hagerty’s page for the 1969 429 SportsRoof displayed a Good (#3) condition guide value of $198,000 in its January 2026 sale record, with a displayed decline of 6.6% over the period shown. This is Hagerty’s guide estimate, not the price paid at auction; other condition-tier figures were restricted to members on that page. Hagerty sale record and guide figure
Hagerty’s valuation framework distinguishes Concours, Excellent, Good and Fair condition. A guide estimate and a realized auction price answer different questions: one is a valuation reference for a condition category, while the other records what a buyer paid for a particular car at a particular sale. Hagerty describes its prices as based on various data sources and the guide as informational. Hagerty valuation report

Why a 1969 Boss 429 is a special case
The Boss 429 was a rare, purpose-built Mustang variant rather than a typical production Mustang trim. Hagerty’s 2025 report says 857 buyers paid $4,798 for a 1969 example, and describes Ford’s NASCAR homologation aim and assembly at Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan. The report characterizes the engine as “a heavily modified racing motor that Ford wanted to homologate for NASCAR racing.” Hagerty 1969 Ford Mustang valuation report

- Model year: Separate 1969 cars from 1970 cars; mixed-year results can distort a year-specific estimate.
- Sale type and date: Use a completed, dated sale result, not an asking price or guide estimate.
- Condition: Look for a clear condition description or tier; the cited sale records do not disclose uniform condition detail.
- Mileage: The two recent listings differ in mileage, so mileage should be assessed alongside condition rather than treated as a standalone adjustment.
- Originality and matching components: Verify the car’s identity and configuration. The available records do not establish a dollar premium for matching numbers or originality.
- Documentation and provenance: Check the supporting paperwork and ownership history. The cited results do not quantify a separate provenance premium.
- Restoration quality: Assess the work and evidence behind it; the sale data do not provide a consistent basis for pricing restoration differences.
For a VIN-specific value, the available auction summaries are only a starting point. Identity, configuration, condition and documentation need to be verified on the individual car; the cited listings alone do not provide enough detail for a precise appraisal.
