Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) invited applications for approximately 230 apprentices under notification APP:01/24. The application window ran from 19 October to 17 November 2024 and is closed. This is a historical notice, not an open recruitment drive; check GRSE’s official career notices for any current result or process updates.
What GRSE advertised in 2024
GRSE, a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, advertised four apprenticeship streams for 2024–25. The notification described the seat counts as approximate and said trades, disciplines and numbers could change.
| Stream | Approximate seats | Training and locations stated in the notice | Monthly stipend stated in the notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade Apprentice (Ex-ITI) | 90 | 12 months; placement depended on trade, with Kolkata and Ranchi used for some trades and single-unit placement for others. | ₹7,000 or ₹7,700; the notice did not establish which circumstances determined the difference. |
| Trade Apprentice (Fresher) | 40 | Kolkata units; duration according to the Apprentices Act. | ₹6,000 in year one and ₹6,600 in year two. |
| Graduate Apprentice | 40 | 12 months in Kolkata units. | ₹15,000 in Kolkata or ₹12,500 in Ranchi. |
| Technician Apprentice | 60 | 12 months; Kolkata or Ranchi units. | ₹10,000 in Kolkata or ₹9,000 in Ranchi. |
GRSE said no benefits, facilities or allowances beyond the consolidated stipend would be payable. The role and its stated location mattered: the four streams did not share one qualification, placement arrangement or stipend.

Ex-ITI trades included fitter, welder, electrician, machinist, pipe fitter, carpenter, mechanical draughtsman, PASAA, electronic mechanic, painter, diesel mechanic, structural fitter, secretarial assistant, machine-tool maintenance, ICT system maintenance, and refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic. Who was eligible
Eligibility depended on the stream. The notice set different maximum ages and relaxations for eligible reserved and disability categories; consult the original APP:01/24 notice for the exact age limits and category rules rather than applying one age rule across all four streams.
Rank #2
- Ex-ITI trade: Applicants needed to pass the All India Trade Test under the Craftsmen Training Scheme and hold an NCVT National Trade Certificate in the relevant feeder trade.
- Fresher trade: Applicants needed Class 10 or equivalent. People who had passed ITI or appeared for an ITI examination were not eligible for this stream.
- Graduate: Applicants needed a degree in one of the specified engineering fields, awarded in 2022, 2023 or 2024.
- Technician: Applicants needed a diploma in one of the specified fields, awarded in 2022, 2023 or 2024.
The notice excluded anyone who had completed, was undertaking, or was registered for apprenticeship training elsewhere. Graduate and technician applicants were also ineligible if they had one year or more of work experience.
How applications worked—and the deadline
Applications were online only. The window opened on 19 October 2024 and closed on 17 November 2024, so candidates cannot apply under this notice now. The application portal repeats the 17 November 2024 last date and advises users to check for updates.

- Ex-ITI and fresher trade applicants were required to register on the Apprenticeship India portal.
- Graduate and technician applicants were required to enroll on NATS.

Selection, verification and employment prospects
GRSE said selection would be merit-based on marks in the qualifying examination: AITT marks for Ex-ITI, degree marks for graduates, diploma marks for technicians and Class 10 marks for fresher trade applicants. Shortlisted candidates were to undergo document verification and a medical examination; police verification was required at joining. Completing the apprenticeship did not obligate GRSE to offer a job afterward.
