Who was rumored to buy the Seahawks?
A February 19, 2026, GeekWire report on The Rich Eisen Show mixed serious possibilities with deliberately playful suggestions. It did not identify confirmed bidders. GeekWire’s report named actors Rainn Wilson, Adam Ray, Joel McHale and Jeffrey Dean Morgan; musicians Eddie Vedder, Jerry Cantrell, Sir Mix-a-Lot and Macklemore; Kraken co-owner and producer Jerry Bruckheimer; and science educator Bill Nye.
GeekWire described Microsoft co-founder Steve Ballmer as perhaps the most legitimate billionaire name in the discussion. Eisen said, “He could be the guy at the end of the day.” Mike Florio, meanwhile, said he thought Jeff Bezos was unlikely to enter the process, while acknowledging Bezos could buy the team if he wanted it. Those were on-air assessments, not evidence that Ballmer, Bezos or anyone else made an offer.
Who bought the Seahawks, and when?
The Allen estate announced it had begun a sale process on February 18, 2026, according to the Associated Press. On July 11, the Seahawks announced an agreement with a group led by the Khosla family, including technology investor Vinod Khosla. The team said the family would become controlling owner, but the agreement still required NFL approval and its announcement did not disclose the terms. The Associated Press reports the completed transaction and ownership roles; the team’s July announcement described the agreement at that stage.

Vinod Khosla said at the time, “We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks. We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”
The NFL unanimously approved the sale in late August, before the transaction closed on September 3, 2026. The completed group includes the Khosla family and co-owners Mark Stevens, the Aramburuzabala family, Val Blavatnik, Sheryl Sokoloff, Gonzalo Hevia Baillères, Jesse van der Werf, Samir Kaul, Sunny Gupta, Nader Naini, Penny Pritzker, Carlyle, Dynasty Equity and Sixth Street. The Khosla family was required to relinquish its stake in the San Francisco 49ers. Axios reported the NFL approval before the AP reported the closing.

How much did the Seahawks sell for?
The completed purchase price was reported as $9.612 billion by the Associated Press. Axios rounded the figure to $9.6 billion when reporting NFL approval. That is the reported transaction price, not an independently established appraisal; the cited reports do not provide a formal valuation method.
Before the buyer and final price were known, Florio told the Rich Eisen Show he would be surprised if the sale were below $9 billion and would not be surprised if it exceeded $10 billion. That was a forecast, not the final price. The GeekWire report also recounted Eisen’s recollection that Paul Allen paid about $140 million and change for the team in 1997.

Florio also described the kind of owner he thought fans should want: “If I’m a Seahawks fan I want someone who just stays out of the way,” and “and gives the team all the resources that it needs.” That was his opinion about ownership, not a finding about the new group’s future performance.

In an October 1, 2026, Axios interview, Khosla said he had no current plans to change the team, its coach, president, operations or Lumen Field. But he did not make an unlimited promise about the franchise’s location. Asked whether the team would remain in Seattle indefinitely, he answered: “I will never say never. Will this team be in Seattle 500 years from now? But I have no current plans to change anything about the team, including the coach, president, operation or Lumen Field. It all functions well.”

Axios reported that Lumen Field’s lease runs through 2032, with options to renew through 2062. Neither the lease timeline nor Khosla’s statement establishes what will happen after the current arrangements; they describe the contractual options and his stated intentions at the time of the interview.
