It is a coordinated system: help the right people discover you, make it easy for them to take a useful next step, follow up with permission, and track whether leads become customers. The seven strategies below are practical options to test—not a universal ranking. Survey and platform reports offer clues, but they do not compare every tactic in the same controlled experiment.
What B2C lead generation means in 2026
B2C lead generation is the process of turning consumer attention into an identifiable expression of interest: a consultation request, product inquiry, account signup, event registration, quote request, or consent-based email or SMS subscription. A purchase can be the next step, but not every lead is ready to buy immediately.
Choose the action that fits the buying journey. A person comparing insurance, financial services, or a high-consideration purchase may need an explanation or quote before deciding; a shopper for a familiar, lower-cost product may be able to buy directly. In either case, a large number of form fills is not proof of success. The useful question is how many appropriate prospects progress to a sale at an acceptable cost.
HubSpot’s 2026 marketer survey offers a snapshot of channel use, not a causal test: 41.7% of surveyed B2C marketers reported using organic social content, 41.6% website/blog/SEO, and 41.2% paid social content. Those adoption figures show what respondents use, not what will work best for a particular company. HubSpot’s 2026 channel findings also identify paid social as a frequent top-ROI choice among respondents, but self-reported ROI rankings should guide experiments rather than replace your own conversion data.

Seven B2C lead-generation strategies to test
1. Publish useful website and SEO content
Create pages that answer the actual questions people ask before choosing a product or service. A useful page explains who the offer is for, what happens next, and what information a visitor needs to provide. Use a focused call to action—such as request a quote, book a consultation, or get a product recommendation—instead of asking for more personal details than the next step requires.
Search remains one route to discovery, but it is not the only one. Salesforce reported that between August 2025 and May 2026, discovery through newer channels such as AI assistants, social-media AI, and delivery apps grew 38%, while discovery through brand-owned properties declined 7% and traditional search declined 15%. These are changes reported by Salesforce, not a forecast for every market or a measure of lead quality. The practical response is to keep product facts, service terms, and educational content clear and consistent wherever people may encounter them. Salesforce’s report on changing shopping discovery describes this shift.
2. Build organic social around each platform
Use organic social to earn attention and answer questions in the format people expect on each platform. A short demonstration, customer education post, creator collaboration, and detailed FAQ may all serve different purposes; copying the same asset everywhere can ignore how audiences use each channel. Make the next step visible, whether that is visiting a relevant landing page, messaging the business, or saving information for later.
Track meaningful actions alongside reach: relevant profile visits, qualified inquiries, signups, and sales attributed with reasonable confidence. HubSpot’s survey found organic social among the most-used B2C channels, but use alone does not establish its effectiveness for your offer.
Rank #2
3. Use paid social to test an end-to-end funnel
Paid social can help put an offer in front of a defined audience, but evaluate the whole path rather than the ad in isolation. Test audience, creative, offer, and landing page as connected parts of one funnel. For example, a compelling ad may generate inexpensive clicks but poor leads if the page is vague or the offer attracts people who are unlikely to qualify.
In HubSpot’s 2026 survey, 28.5% of B2C marketer respondents identified paid social among their top ROI channels. That self-reported result is a reason to test, not a promise of return or proof that paid social outperforms every other tactic. Compare cost per qualified lead and eventual customer—not just cost per click or raw form submission.
4. Reduce friction with social shopping
Where the product and platform support it, let people move from discovery to a product detail, inquiry, or purchase without unnecessary steps. Keep availability, price, product details, and the action button clear. For services or products that need explanation, the right low-friction action may be a message or consultation request rather than an immediate checkout.
HubSpot reported that 23.9% of B2C marketer respondents identified organic social and social-shopping tools among the channels they considered top performers for ROI. Treat that as a survey signal, not a universal result: feature availability, shopper habits, and attribution vary by market and platform. A social-shopping path is useful only if the product information is accurate and the next step works for your audience.

5. Partner with creators whose audience fits
Choose creators for audience relevance and credible presentation, not simply follower count. Brief them on the offer, the audience it serves, any material claims they should avoid, and one trackable next step. A demonstration or explanation that helps a consumer make a decision can be more useful than a broad endorsement with no clear route to inquire or buy.
Measure leads or sales with suitable links, codes, or campaign tracking, while recognizing that these methods can miss people who later convert through another channel. Meta and the Retailers Association of India reported creator- and Reels-related outcomes in an India retail context. One named example is Reliance Digital’s Reels-forward strategy and work with regional creators, described by its senior vice president of omnichannel marketing. Those results are specific to the company, program, and market; they do not establish the same outcome for other businesses. Meta’s India omnichannel retail report provides the context.
6. Follow up with permission-based email and SMS
Ask clearly for permission to send the kinds of messages a person will receive, and make signup easy to understand. Then use behavior-triggered messages when they are relevant: a welcome series after signup, an abandoned-cart reminder, or a back-in-stock alert. A trigger based on someone’s action is different from sending every contact the same scheduled campaign; neither changes the need for appropriate consent and a clear way to manage messages.
Omnisend’s 2026 ecommerce marketing report analyzed 2025 activity on its platform. It attributed 30% of revenue to automated email while automated messages accounted for 2% of email sends; it also reported $2.87 in revenue per automated email send versus $0.18 per scheduled campaign send. These are platform-reported figures, not a controlled result for every business, and the report’s ecommerce context matters. Use them as a reason to examine relevant automation—not as a revenue forecast. Omnisend’s 2026 ecommerce marketing report explains its figures.

7. Improve first-party data and connect online with offline results
Collect only information that serves a clear purpose, such as a stated preference that helps tailor recommendations or a contact detail needed for a requested quote. Keep records accurate and consistent, and connect marketing touchpoints to downstream outcomes where practical. If a lead books by phone or buys in person after seeing an online campaign, a measurement system that records only website conversions will miss part of the journey.
Data quality can constrain personalization and attribution. In a 2025 survey of 260 U.S. B2C/D2C marketing professionals at organizations with at least $25 million in annual revenue, PGM Solutions and Ascend2 reported that 81% said data challenges held them back; 57% cited inaccurate data for personalization and 47% difficulty combining data sources. The surveyed group is a defined segment, not all B2C businesses. PGM Solutions and Ascend2’s audience-building report announcement describes the survey.
In a separate India retail context, Meta and the Retailers Association of India reported a 62% average increase in leads generated among retailers using Business Messaging and Click-to-WhatsApp campaigns. The finding is tied to that report’s market and campaign context; it should not be generalized into an expected lift elsewhere.

Do not rank all seven tactics using figures from unrelated surveys and platform reports. Set a shared measurement standard, then compare the tactics you can realistically run:
Best Value
- Audience and offer fit: Is the channel reaching people likely to need the offer, and does the message explain why it is relevant?
- Lead quality: Define what qualifies as a useful lead before launch. Separate appropriate inquiries from incomplete forms or contacts that cannot be served.
- Cost to acquire a customer: Track cost per qualified lead and, when enough time has passed, cost per customer. Include the costs that matter to the channel, such as creative, media, and follow-up work.
- Time to results: Paid campaigns may produce early response data; educational content may need longer to attract and convert visitors. Compare on a time horizon that fits the tactic rather than calling a slow start a failure by default.
- Permission and follow-up: Check whether the lead has agreed to the contact method and whether the follow-up is timely and relevant.
- Attribution coverage: Note what your tracking can and cannot connect across ads, website visits, messaging, phone calls, and offline sales. Avoid claiming a channel caused a sale when the evidence only shows an association.
A simple operating cycle is to choose one audience and one primary action, establish a baseline, test a manageable change, and review qualified leads and sales—not just engagement—before shifting spend. Keep the comparison fair: use consistent lead definitions and account for differences in offer, market, and sales cycle.
What the 2026 evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The available figures come from different kinds of evidence: HubSpot reports what marketers said they use or consider high-ROI; Omnisend reports activity on its platform; Salesforce reports changing discovery patterns; PGM Solutions and Ascend2 surveyed a defined U.S. marketing segment; and Meta/RAI report India-focused retail findings. These sources can help identify promising tests, but they do not provide a head-to-head causal ranking of all seven strategies for every B2C company.
Discovery is also spreading beyond a company’s own website and traditional search. Salesforce Regional Vice President Swatantra Kumar described customers beginning journeys in AI chats, social feeds, and delivery apps. That makes accurate, understandable information across touchpoints more important, but it does not mean every business needs to invest in every emerging channel at once.
