United MileagePlus Premier status can make eligible trips more comfortable and less cumbersome, from earlier access to extra-legroom seats to priority airport services. The most useful perks depend on your tier, route, fare, participating carrier or property, and availability; status does not guarantee an upgrade or airport lounge access.
1. Economy Plus can add legroom
Economy Plus seats offer more legroom than standard economy seats. Premier members can select them without an additional seat fee under tier-specific rules, but access timing and seat availability matter.
- Premier Silver: Complimentary Economy Plus access begins at check-in, when seats are available.
- Premier Gold and higher: United’s published benefit material provides an earlier access position, including access at booking for Gold. Check the rules for your tier and reservation before relying on a particular seat.
A preferred seat is not guaranteed to remain open, and an Economy Plus seat is not a cabin upgrade. United and Marriott’s Premier benefits FAQ describes the tier-based access.
2. Complimentary upgrades are possible, not promised
Eligible Premier members may be waitlisted for complimentary upgrades on United and United Express flights. Whether a request clears depends on upgrade availability and the applicable rules; Premier status alone does not confirm a seat in a better cabin.

Premier Platinum and Premier 1K members also receive PlusPoints, which they can use to request upgrades. United allows PlusPoints upgrades on select Star Alliance partner airlines, subject to the operating carrier’s availability. See United’s current PlusPoints information for the program’s terms. Treat an upgrade as a possibility until it is confirmed.
3. Priority services can reduce airport friction
Premier Access can provide designated check-in, priority security where available, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling. These conveniences can mean fewer standard queues and earlier boarding, but the services available depend on the airport and itinerary. Details are in United and Marriott’s Premier benefits FAQ.

Priority airport services are not lounge access. The benefits described here do not establish that Premier status, by itself, gets you into a United Club or another lounge.
4. Checked-bag allowances can save fees
Premier status can increase the number of checked bags included in an itinerary, but the allowance varies by tier and trip. United and Marriott’s FAQ gives these examples for Premier Silver: one complimentary checked bag weighing up to 70 pounds on US domestic travel, and two complimentary bags weighing up to 70 pounds each on travel between the US and Europe.

These are route-specific examples, not a universal allowance for every Premier Silver trip. Before packing, check the baggage allowance shown for your exact itinerary, including the operating carrier and any fare-specific conditions. The FAQ’s baggage section provides the cited examples.
5. Some benefits extend beyond the flight
Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite
Premier Gold members and higher can register for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite through RewardsPlus. Registration is required, and the benefit is subject to eligibility and validity rules. It is a hotel-loyalty status pathway, not a guarantee of a room upgrade or a particular hotel amenity. See United and Marriott RewardsPlus for the registration details.

Wi-Fi and hotel perks at participating properties
Eligible Premier members can receive standard Wi-Fi at United Hotels VIP Access properties. Room upgrades and early or late check-in are conditional on the member’s tier, card, hotel participation, and availability; they should not be treated as guaranteed features of every booking. The perks with the clearest day-to-day value are the ones you can use on routes you actually fly: earlier access to Economy Plus, priority airport services, and the checked-bag allowance that applies to your itinerary. Upgrade opportunities and hotel benefits can add value, but depend more heavily on availability and eligibility.
